I asked and received this as a Christmas gift for 2013. I heard about them for the last 2 years but slacked off on buying one. I wish I had bough one earlier because I really love it. I've used to mainly for Netflix and HBOGO. I have had no issues, but only 1 month of use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The unit bit the dust the other night. The sound became so garbbled I couldn't understand any actor. I called tech support and the rep knew his business. It took about 30 minutes to walk me through the problems and explain how to fix them.

Netflix is finally watchable at my house!

I had been using 2 Sony Blu-Ray players to stream netflix. One in my living room, and one in my bedroom. They worked well a few years ago, but apparently Sony Blu-Ray players don't stream Netflix from Netflix, they go to Sony first. Since the release of the PS4, Netflix has been unwatchable since I could only get very low connection speeds. I decided to buy a Roku and what a difference. First, the UI is awesome. My Sony didn't have profiles - or any of the categories that show up on the Roku. Second, the Roku is FAST. From click to play is usually no more than a few seconds. It starts a little blurry, but usually goes full HD before the end of the opening credits. Scrolling through titles occasionally has short 'glitches', but that seems more related to my network than the Roku. I've owned mine for over a month, and I've only had one 'crash' that required me to unplug my Roku to restart it. Since I've used it every single day for multiple hours, I'm not going to sweat it. I also like the fact that I'm not limited to whatever apps were already installed. I've installed PBS, and History channel, and they both work really well. I was also surprised that I could find some of my favorite podcasts to watch - "Security Now!" on TWIT and "The Linux Action Show!" on Jupiter Broadcasting both have apps for free, so I can watch those two. I originally only bought one for my bedroom, but I bought a second for my living room a few days later, and I couldn't be happier.

I bought this about 2 months ago thinking i would have free channels since i cannot receive cable at my location. There are many channels advertised as free but only for one month or only with a cable or satellite subscription to that channel. That is why i bought the Roku, because i don't have either of those! And it worked fine until they pushed out an update the beginning of January. Now i get "content blocked" on a blue screen for everything about once per week, requiring a reboot of the box and Netflix will not work at all now. it just freezes at 100% downloaded when i select a movie. I know its not my WiFi because i was able to stream it through my bluray player without any problems. Until they fix their "update" i would not recommend this for anyone.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We bought this to use with a Slingbox player for our vacation home. Love that we will be saving over $1,000.00 per year! I only wish that when using the Slingbox, we could use the Roku remote. We'll probably buy another for home to watch the free Amazon Prime movies

I received my Roku as a gift. I use it as an alternative to cable. There are many viewing options. I use Netflix, Hulu and Amazon on my device. There is plenty to watch! I haven't tried all the features, but I look forward to further exploring Roku. The only thing I dislike is that after turning off the television, I get an unauthorized content screen that is only resolved by unplugging the hdmi cable and restarting the device. I've tried three cables and have the same problem with each.
