Awesome! Easy to use!

I live in a very rural area in Tennessee. Closest internet connection is either dial-up or using my cell phone as a hot spot. A friend of mine told me about using our Xbox 360 to connect to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Reception was.... ok. Not great, dropped a lot, needed to rebuffer a lot, etc. Sometimes took 10 - 15 minutes to get a good connection to watch something, and then we had to shut down all of our computers to keep the connection. Heard about Roku 3 at Costco. Went home and did my research and finally invested in one. LOVE it!!! We still use my cell phone as a hot spot, but Roku 3 has made it so much easier to connect to Netflix and Amazon Prime and NOT drop programming. It's so much faster than the Xbox too! Awesome!

Better than direct-tv

With my subscription to Netflix and HuluPlus I can watch every show I ever wanted to about fifty dollars cheaper than direct-tv.

I'm an old guy who, for more than 50 years, watched my TV programs by time slot. Tuesdays might be Nova, 60 Minutes on Sunday, and so on. Now, with Roku, I can watch programs any time I want. There's lots of content, WAY more than I'll ever get to, even if it does look interesting on the catalog pages. Some good live content, too.
I just got a divorce from cable, and I fell as if I'm getting alimony by not giving up my $ every month. Only gripe is that the interface is a little cludgy.

Great piece of hardware, mostly terrible apps

Works great with Plex to stream local media, Youtube and netflix apps are awesome. Other than that, there are hardly any apps for it. The others that I've tried were all awful.

Good service, cheap hardware

I like the service. However, the Roku remote feels like a cheap, pece of junk and when I use the headphone jack it often cuts out and I can fix it only with a time-consuming and annoying reboot to the base station. I cnt use headphones if I use iPhone app so that isn't a solution. All the lack of numbered keys on the roku remote makes searching for content difficult. I would have paid a few bucks more for a quality remote.

Great product with one caveat

The throughput is superior to that from my Bravio DVD - both in quality of picture and presentation of product. This is particularly true for Netflix. The major problem is that about every 2 weeks the thing crashes and not only does it have to be registered again and reoriented, all of the paid superscription have to be reentered,

So far, not so good

I only bought this about a month ago and I just had to spend 45 minutes in a chat session just to get the search feature added back to my home screen menu. When it was working I thought the product was great. But, after having to get it fixed after only 1 month, I'm skeptical.

I haven't watched cable in over a year. I refuse to pay 99 a month for there service. Sure they give you three months low then bam. I have netflix and now can watch on my tv. Movies are easy access..no running to store I do not have local channel yet, not because of roku, because ATT Uverse hasn't arrived at my town yet. Once it does I'm set,, My daughter loved mine so be bought one!
