Had a Roku 2XD to see if we would be dropping cable, loved it, but did have a little remote delay due to the old style.  Went ahead and upgraded to the Roku3 moving the XD to the office and WOW, this thing is amazing.  Lightning fast swaps, different user accounts are nice, and the interface with Netflix, ESPN, etc. is amazing.  We already plan to upgrade to more 3's and even get my parents one or two.  Love it!

I really like the easiness of it for setting up, and getting going. My wife and daughters enjoy how easy it is to watch Netflix. I like the many different channels available, myself.
The negative about Roku is that there are very few free games, and that you MUST have a working credit card to proceed - you can't use a pre-paid credit card or not give one.

I've had my Roku 3 for about one month.  It does everything it's supposed to do and with the recent addition of YouTube, it's a complete streaming device.

This is the BEST media streamer out there PERIOD!!!!  I have been using players with a USB drive connected because my movies are 1080p and nothing could stream wirelessly at a quality that I like.  I got a ROKU 3 because it would play .mkv using USB but i figured I'd try streaming since it has a 5GHz connection.  I've used Plex (plexapp.com) for years and it's the BEST software out there for its purpose.  I added the plex app and easily found my server selected a movie and bam.  PERFECT quality over wifi.  I was shocked but it plays everything perfectly and now i can actually use PLEX as it was intended.  BUY this little wonder device.  Now i have to get 4 more for the rest of the house.

Escaping the high cost of satellite/cable TV

I bought the Roku 3 based on a recommendation from a friend.  I am trying to dump the monthly satellite TV bill and get my TV entertainment solely from streaming via wifi.
I'm mostly relying on a Netflix subscription so that I don't have the constant $1.99 or more charges that are tagged onto most of the other channels.
The positive side of changing to Roku from satellite TV service is that I can watch programs that actually interest me when I want to see them, rather than having the steady drone of typical TV viewing of whatever is on.
A downside is that I do have to search for programs I want to watch rather than just flicking on the TV tube and letting it go, but it is fairly easy to locate interesting shows through the suggested films/TV shows, or the Roku search feature.
The only technical problem I've encountered is that the streaming video will occasionally stop playing and display and error message of "We're having trouble with this program," which can be annoying; but it typically can be immediately corrected by going back to the program selection and hitting "Resume."
Also, the Roku 3 remote control burns up AA batteries (regardless of the brand or quality of the batteries) within about 3 - 4 days, but I do use the remote private hearing option with earphones to watch TV late at night, which may use the batteries faster. The battery exhaustion warning light that appears in the upper right corner of the TV screen is useful to know when to change the batteries.  I have stocked up on a load of inexpensive AA batteries to install as frequently as required.
Altogether, Roku 3 is an easy device to install and use and provides an excellent alternative to paying for cable or satellite TV service.

I have been paying Directv over $100 a month. Roku gives me more the ability to watch specific programming that fits me.There is no need to record, its already done for you and you can watch the series from the beginning.
