We had another device that was used for streaming and the Roku 3 wins hands down. We are glad we decided to try the Roku 3. The picture is 1080i when possisble and is awesome.

Not happy with the machine freezing frequently

I was initially very happy with my new Roku, however a couple of weeks into using it and I find that when I try to view video from a USB drive to the TV the box continuously freezes and resets itself. It has become very annoying.
Given that problem, otherwise the box is working very well. It does a great job with photos and music and retrieving channels from the network. It just seems that maybe the processor is not fast enough to handle the local content from the drive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Little device

I have two Roku players and the ease of use is perfect for my Mother-in-law, however the available channels and power of the little streamer is great for our upstairs TV that does not have DTV.
The only con I have is paid channels are per unit and not per account so I would have to pay for the same service twice if I want it in both rooms....not cool! I understand the rational, just not sure the rational really holds water.

I love my Roku 3. I did a lot of research and reading before making my purchase and so I knew what to expect. My nieces and grandchildren had fun with it at Christmas Dinner. I am too thrifty to pay for cable and this fills in the spot nicely when I am tired of watching regular antenna on my HD TV. The games are a nice change of pace. When you first set it up only choose a few channels and add the others later. Adding channels is quick -- setting up several initially takes a long time. Many of the free channels come with ads just like regular tv. I don't agree there is 700-1000 channels but there is definitely enough.

I'm still out on this one.

Seems almost every time I go to use my set up it gives me a DHCP message. Or something like that, so I have to immediate unplug it and then inter my email and password to gain access yet again to Netflix or some other program outlet. I'm still scratching my head on this one as according to the internet this is quit common. Some say it's the internet or its the HDMI cable. So without blaming Roku directly for this I do find it a bit frustrating. Not a big deal really but an inconvenient one at best. So what causes this problem the juries still out on this one. So I'm on the fence....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
