We live rural - 7 miles from a village of a thousand. Streaming video is a valued part of our life. We cannot get cable, tho we do have DSL. We were using an older computer as a media base station but wanted to expand our viewing options. I chatted with friends who had a Roku, and all endorsed it. We ordered one and now are of conflicting opinions. My wife prefers the Roku because of the simplicity of the remote and menus, and because of the improved picture quality. My complaint is with video viewing selections. Being rather selective in our viewing habits, we watched two online streaming providers (Amazon Prime and NetFlix) almost exclusively, with occasional forays to other networks (A&E, FX, YouTube, CBS) via broadband. With the Roku hooked up and the computer removed, we could go to the same two major providers and dabble with some of the other Roku channels, but we cannot stream some of our [referred content. As a consequence, we are actually paying out more per month to rent the TV shows that we were streaming free, and we now have BOTH the computer and the Roku streaming to the TV. The image is definitely better on the Roku and the remote is much simpler. She is happy. I want to send it back: I think we paid $99 and accomplished little besides reducing our available free options and increasing our monthly outlay for paid content. Bottom Line: If you are already using a computer ba station to stream video to your HDMI TV as we were, take a close look at what IS streaming on Roku and especially what IS NOT on Roku before you invest. Yes, I heartily endorse the Roku if you do not have a computer to use as a media center. I do NOT endorse it if you are streaming through your computer as we were. My regret is that I did not study video availabilities because I was entranced with the technology. It would have changed the decision.

The fact that I have to unplug the HDMI cable EVERY time I turn on my tv because the Roku is "HDCP Unauthorized. Content Disabled." Don't worry- I googled this and got 100's of results from people having the same problem and picked up the little HDMI cable trick. I wish I would have searched reviews before I purchased this so I would have known not to spend my money on it.

I have had my Roku 3 for just over a month, and I am very happy with this great device.  The best features, which really make me happy:  streaming my entire media libray through Plex media server, and the Roku mobile app.  With the Roku app, I can stream photos, music and videos from my iPad and Android tablets.  Everything is so user-friendly and easy.  Kudos!

So I've been a fan of the Roku for awhile.  When my xbox live renewal came up I opted to replace it with a Roku for the living room.  The channels selection is cool and the ability to stream music from my PC is sweet.  Well worth the price.
My only criticism is that with some movies the compression artifacts are more noticeable than the xbox, but I'm not a videophone so I can live with it. It would also be a nice feature that when signing up for services I wouldn't have to constantly go to a computer and setup an account then activate my device.  If I could do that all from the Roku it would make things a bit more convenient.

My Sony Bravia internet TV used to buffer persistently while watching movies on Netflix, despite a fairly decent internet connection, and it was also a pain to use, so I decided to look for an alternative, and came across the Roku 3. Have had it two months, and am very pleased with it so far. It's easy to use, good value for money, streams beautifully and has only ever buffered briefly once during a movie. A vast improvement over my Sony Bravia. Also loving the features, such as the WiFi remote, and ipad app, makes searching for movies much more easy.
My only criticism would be that it doesn't have a Youtube channel.

When I installed my Roku player 7 months ago, it worked great. But for the past month I've had nothing but problems. The player disconnects from my local network every night. And streaming has become so slow I can not view any channel now -- not one.
I've spent weeks on the phone and emailing Roku for help. Nothing has worked. I plan to cancel my account and try an Amazon box instead.

We have had our Roku 3 for 6 months and love it so much we bought another one for our other TV in another room. We have all the channels we need and love and Roku gives us new ones all the time. We are so excited to not pay for cable anymore.
