Nice features, but a not perfect.

I use to have my old menu on surround sound and can still watch regular sound if I wanted. Now with the new menu, if I have it on surround sound, I can't get my regular TV sound. I have to keep toggling back to setup every time I want surround. That to me is a major flaw.

Navigation is clunky and PLEX channel needs work

I bought the Roku 3 to run the PLEX channel for my media server. There were several issues. First, unless I have the media server running on a very fast machine (in my case an iMac) the transcoding needed for the Roku cannot keep up with the streaming rate needed for HD and I get a lot of "Downloading: Please Wait" dialogs and that is unacceptable. This is what happened with my Mac Mini which is currently my PLEX Media Server. I am still trying to resolve the problem. Running a PLEX Media Server off my iMac solves the problem for the Roku and I can stream HD content w/o "Downloading…" dialogs. Second, the PLEX channel on the Roku doesn't support the Aeon skin I am familiar with on PLEX Media Client and PLEX Home Theater, so navigating through my media library is uncomfortable and clunky. Third, navigating the content on the Roku, in general, is clunky. There is a lot of content but no particular attention paid to making it easy or fast to get to specific content (e.g. better search tools and filters). I would recommend that channel designers take their cues from the PLEX Aeon skin and navigation because it makes PLEX a dream (or at least closer).
I would recommend the Roku 3 to friends who have fast networks and are interested in streaming content from the network. It is only suitable for use with a HD library or with PLEX if they have a powerful machine for their PLEX Media Server.

bought 2 of these little over month ago smartest purchase I have made in a very long time.. I tell every I run into that it is fantastic. I don't have cable at home and probably never will again.. I need to buy one more when I can come up with the money the will have them throughout the house.. thanks to everyone there..from Melvin L. Downard Jr. and family..

I loved the Roku from day one. Easy setup, Great response interface with my WiFi. Abundance of options when paired with channel options. Goodbye cable.

I bought this to replace a older model media player. Roku was a great choice to upgrade. Not disappointed in the least. Great number of channels fast set up and plays content in a flash.

Our next big step to cutting the cord!

I thought just getting Netflix through our blueray DVD was great until I got our Roku3 set up. Now we watch Netflix, Red Box, Amazon Instant Video, Acorn, Hulu Plus, Warner Archive and others. Yes, some of what we watch are on subscription accounts, but the amount of content choice with no further fees except the monthly subscription is UNBELIEVABLE. We have already cut some cable options (movie channels and DVR service) to make up for the added cost of subscriptions. After we get use to the Roku for about 6 months we will evaluate what we are watching on TV and see if we can cut back to a basic cable TV package that will just get our local channels and use the Roku access for all our other viewing options. When my wife is watching her favorite British TV show, I am snuggled up in my favorite easy chair watching a movie on my iPad.
