bought this as we are cutting the cord with cable company, and was extremely nervous that it would be a let down-boy was I wrong! Also bought the Roku 3 to use ethernet connection and the HDMI port.
Could not be happier, and will more than likely purchase another one for other TV in the house.

Does everything I hoped it would. It's much better than a blue ray player for streaming because it's blazing fast. Plays Youtube perfectly.

I have owned multiple Blu-Ray based players and three stand-alone media players (Sony, Western Digital) and hands down this Roku 3 is the best performing of all of them and in the case of the Blu-Ray players, by a wide margin. Most Blu-Ray players are absolutely horrible at streaming and slow as molasses, so it's no contest to beat those, but this Roku is so lightning fast navigating through the menus and connecting to channels, that it makes even the stand-alone players I had from Sony and Western Digital look slow! This is also the only player I'm aware of that has a built-in receiver and headphone amplifier in the remote! Yes, that's right...you can plug headphones into the remote and it automatically mutes the audio output from the HDMI connector so you can listen without disturbing others. This unit has only one output port though for video and audio--namely the single HDMI port. That means you must have a receiver that has HDMI inputs or you must go directly into your HDTV with HDMI and then come out of your HDTV with either analog cables or fiber optic cables to get audio into an older receiver. Some HDTVs will not pass Dolby Digital Surround signals when you do this however, so you may only get stereo this way. There are some quirks however if you are used to other players. The three primary ones are: 1) It has a very limited ability to play your own video files. It supports only MP4 (H.264 Codec) and MKV (H.264) video file wrappers encoded with AAC or MP3 audio and it's fussy even about these 2) There is no "built-in" app to play your own video files connected to the USB port. You have to download a "channel" from the Roku channel store (free) to play anything connected to the USB port, which is very odd and not at all obvious (Google it or email support) 3) There is no easy way to verify your wireless-n signal strength and settings. You have to access a special "hidden" menu by pressing the Home key 5 times, then pressing the Fast Forward, Play, Rewind, Play, Fast Forward buttons in that order. Even with these quirks, I'm glad to give this player 5 stars!

Not what I expected

All it does it connect you to to streaming content which many other boxes do. It doesnt offer any parental controls at all and you HAVE to give them a credit card for "just in case you want to by something onilne" which I dont. thats my 2 cents. Oh the head phones in the remote is a neat idea.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I love my Roku 3. It does what it said it would do. It was easy to hook up and I can get closed caption on Amazon prime and Netflix on my TV. I could not do that with a sony Blue-ray. I am very pleased with this product.

The Roku remote and system works as advertised. My only real comment is that it would be great is all of its features/controls could part of a truly one combined remote rather than having to use several.
