Great content but lacks a key feature

I've had my Roku 3 for about 3 months. The main reason I bought it was to use the Plex channel to access my media server from any TV in the house that has a Roku. What I didn't realize (and what they don't tell you) is that there is a very limited number of video formats the Roku can transcode. I can't even get a definitive list of the supported formats from their technical support people. All my video files are in .MKV format and when I try to watch one from my server through the Roku using the Plex channel it instantly goes into buffering for about 5 minutes, plays for 2 or 3 seconds, then goes back to buffering. Whenever I contact the Roku tech support people they just refer me to Plex tech support instead (which are also no help). I had planned to buy a Roku 3 for every room in my house but if it can't transcode .MKV there is no point. Converting my entire library of video files to another format would be extremely time consuming and I like the .MKV format because it preserves the 5.1 channel audio. Other than that the Roku 3 is great! It has a lot of great content available and is very easy to set up and use. If they ever release an update that supports .MKV transcoding I'll probably buy 3 more! One other issue is that I can't program my universal remote to control the Roku because it doesn't use an IR signal but that is a minor issue. If you just want a device to access streaming web content on your TV I recommend it!

Love the new ROKU 3 as much as my 2 ROKU 2's

Have had this ROKU 3 a couple of months and love it. It is faster than the two ROKU 2's I have. The headset option in the remote is fantastic, now that I found the volume button on the side of the remote :-(

Easy to install, use, great content

As our cable bill skyrocketed we reduced the premium content that we were paying for. Now Netflix and Amazon Prime, just $ 8 each, give us all of the movies, TV shows than we could possibly watch. Other channels help entertain our grandchildren. The only complaint might be the warranty. It is only 90 days.

Very useful...and great device

Since 2 month I have rocku and it's a great experience. It has most of the app which are popular.and you can watch any programme any time mainly hindi (Indian channal) and it s a great saving in coparisation to cable TV..It has feater of DVR so no time restriction to watch programme.You can watch your favorite programe any time and as many time you can up to seven days recording facitilities.
It has great facility in remot that if you do not want to disturb any one in home with voice disturbance it has earphone you can plugged in remot so you only can hear voice so no voice disturbance....I like most.

Only problem that no Amarican popular TV is live available so you are missing current news live in USA but if you have subscription of varizon or Time warner cable or optimum you can watch good show through it in amarican programme.
It Is useful.....but if you have smart tv then if you do not bu rocku it is okay.

i bought ROKU 3 early this year ( april 2013 ) i am existing roku customer since last 2 years ,previously i had ROKU XD/S WHICH IS STILL DOING GOOD BUT AFTER WATCHING DEMO & READING REVIEWS OF OTHER CUSTOMERS I DECIDED TO UPGRADE TO ROKU 3 .WHICH WAS ONE OF THE BEST PURCHASE I MADE.ROKU 3 IS MIND BLOWING,I LOVE IT LOVE IT.GO AHEAD BUY IT YOU WILL NEVER REGREAT IT.IT WILL CHANGE YOUR TV VIEWING SPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE LED TV

Small Package with Big Enterteinment!!

I had two of these for a few months now and I am very satisfied with them. The nly thing I wish they had was the application to Youtube which is not listed on supported apps. But still plays and have great resolution for movies from Netflix or shows from Hulu.

This product was a gift from my daughter and her husband. We haven't really used it that much but today I decided I would stream in the Netflex since I have a subscription on Netflex and haven't used it. After getting help from the support on Roku, it is working very well.
