GREAT upgrades

I have had the original Roku for a number of years now and it works fine. I got an email offer for the Roku 3 and ordered it. It arrived within a few days. The Roku 3 is much smaller than the original Roku and has some great upgrades. Love the new remote, additional channel capabilities and flashdrive features! Im very glad I upgraded. I moved the original Roku to one of the bedrooms...win/win!

LOVE MY ROKU

I CUT MY CABLE TV BILL TO ALMOST NOTHING AND MY ELECTRIC BILL WENT DOWN ALSO. AT FIRST, MY 8 YEAR OLD GRANDSON WAS UPSET BUT HE IS HAPPY AND SATISFIED TO BE ABLE TO FIND MOST OF HIS SHOWS THRU NETFLIX, HULU, AMAZON AND VUDU. I AM ABLE TO PAY FOR "NEW SHOWS" WHEN " I WANT TO."
ALSO, THERE ARE ENDLESS APPS FOR ANY SUBJECT YOU CAN THINK OF, WEATHER , COOKING, EXERCISE, MUSIC, WEB CAMS, EVEN APPS FOR YOUR PETS. THE WHOLE FAMILY LOVES ROKU AND MOST OF THE COMMERCIALS WE HAD TO WATCH "ARE HISTORY.

slow loading

Slow loading especially when using wi-fi. Better when hard-wired but still pauses to load quite often sometimes.

We love our Roku 3. We purchased 2 and canceled our satellite. It has been a great investment for out family of 6! We have told everyone we know. Roku is awesome. We first purchased another brand and after much confusion on how to use it we took it back and got the Roku. A week later we purchased a second one. And my 15 yr old is getting one for Christmas. Great buy!

A great alternative

I got the Roku 3 two months ago cause my cable bill was getting un-manageable. Great selection of available programing. Easy to navigate menu and simple search function make it a delight to us. Streaming items like this are the future and cable companies know it. The more popular these items get, the more premium programming will be made available at a more reasonable price. Would highly recommend.

Very intuitive

I have had my Roku 3 for about 6 weeks now and have enjoyed it. It was easy to set up and is lightning fast loading my Netflix movies. I used to use a Blu-Ray player to watch Netflix but it had too many glitches. The Roku is flawless. The only content that I would like to see added would possibly be You Tube and Internet search.

Very Good...but could use a few enhancements

I bought the Roku 3 about 3 months ago to accompany the purchase of a new Yamaha sound bar. The Boxee Box I have did not have Netflix in 5.1 and Boxee is no longer supported. The footprint of the Roku 3 is very small, about the size of a hockey puck. The boot up time is quite quick and the user interface in general is quite fast.
In Canada the selection/quality of channels is a bit weak, but this may improve over time. The Netflix quality is excellent and the UI overhaul is quite nice. They've also recently added a queue or favorite list, which Boxee never had. The sound through my soundbar with Netflix 5.1 shows is excellent, audio overall on the Roku 3 is better than the Boxee Box.
Including Plex as a default app is an excellent idea, but if they had of included the Plex media server onto the Roku like some NAS devices have, would be a major plus and eliminate having a PC to run the Plex media server. This is where Boxee got it right, by having the device transcode private media. The lack of a "default" Youtube channel is baffling given this device's popularity.
Using Plex and local content actually works really well. Out of a large media library, there wasn't much that I couldn't play format wise and it all looked really good.
Cons:
Please update your firmware to allow people to choose there DNS or static network settings in general. Almost any media streamer allows this and it is baffling why Roku locks this down.
Please get some quality control for your App submissions. Seriously, some of the logos look like they were created with MS Paint. It gives the UI an amateurish look.
Lack of a browser is a major tech gap. The browser on the Boxee box was actually pretty good and even had a pop-up blocker.
Work with Canadian TV stations to get their Apps onto Roku. CBC,CITYTV,GLOBAL,CTV all have apps on other platforms. If you want to compete in Canada, get them onboard.
