I received the Roku 3 as a Christmas present. This will make the 3rd one I have had. I noticed right away how much faster it is and there are far more channels. The earbuds are great so not to desturb anyone at night as I wach a movie.
The one thing I noticed that was not right is it gets much hotter then the last 2 I have. All in all this is the best one yet. Just hope you add more programing (as if there wasn't enough already) would like to see BBC added. Not BBC America. Want to see the original programs that eventually end up here as a series.
Anyway keep up the good work and don't stop the updates and improvements. My old ones stopped updating.

I had been using a Wi player, to watch Netflix on my tv. The picture was bad and I couldn't get the sound through my outdated surround sound. With the Roku 1, I now watch Netflix, with a quality picture by connecting to my tv, with the HDMI cable and get the surround sound, with the RCA type of connection (yellow, white, red cable) to the auxiliary, on the surround sound system. There's so many other stations to explore as well. I've got the Pandora stations that I love and can now hear through my sound system. Roku 1, allowed me to use the setup, that I already have in place.

I previously used a dedicated Windows 7 Media Center PC to display content on my TV, and when it died, a friend recommended that I use a Roku 3 instead. I was honestly dubious that a $100 device could replace the $600 media PC I'd been using, but I took the plunge and I honestly haven't looked back. While my PC would occasionally remind me that it was a computer by not working quite right, the Roku has been flawless. Between Netflix and Plex, it plays any content I can throw at it and has everything I need, not to mention the dozens of other channels (games, movies, news, sports, and others). Though I though the headphones-that-plug-into-the-remote was an odd feature at first, it's great for the TV in our bedroom when the kids get up too early, since it lets them watch a show quietly while we grab a bit more sleep. Honestly, the only feature it's missing is the DVD drive my PC had built in, but a $30 stand-alone Blu-ray player solved that problem like a champ. We even had a problem with one of our remotes and Roku replaced it for us, no questions asked - that's less common these days, and a welcome surprise. I'd recommend the device to anybody who asks what should power their home media center, without a bit of hesitation. Nice work, Roku!

Is useful with a few quirks that need to be adress

The Roku 3 is useful, but it has some quirks and needs an update. The store function to add services worked for one day and then stopped working. After looking through internet blogs, one person suggested changing my DNS server address on my wireless router. It worked. I have used that address for 15 years with no problems with a plethora of other devices. I tried to play a video that was recorded on my android phone through the Roku USB Port. The video was on a USB stick. The video would play a bit and then the Roku box would spontaneously reboot. I downloaded the Roku Android app. It works for the most part, but locked up once when I accidentally swiped across it. The app has no menu selection to turn it off; it requires you to use the phone's application utility to force close it. Videos do not play from the phone. Because the unit does not have an audio optical out connector, you must get the sound through the HDMI connector. Some Sony TVs are made in such a way that you must use the TV's audio out analog RCA jacks for sound whne the sound comes through the HDMI connector. It took me many hours to realize that sound routed to the TV through the HDMI cable does not get routed through the TV's audio optical out port. This is not a fault of the Roku 3's HDMI port, but other devices (including their lower end products) have an optical audio out port to solve this problem. The Roku 3 supports 720p and 1080p, but does not have a setting for 1080i. My Sony TV has 720p and 1080i, therefore I told the Roku to use 720p. However, it will let you spend more money on 1080p movies. The surprising thing is, they work. But something must be down converting it to 720p. It many be a waste of money to buy 1080p movies if something in the process changes them down to 720p. All in all, the box is functional for downloading movies and for playing music through Pandora. Phone control is spotty and not fully functional. Support for home video is not sufficient to be viable. And while it can play music from the USB port, it plays them all from one level with no library function. Scrolling through 3,000 songs to find one is not feasible. It needs a library function with playlists. The availability of current movies on the services provided is lacking. That may be the case with any device like this.
