Internet tv is the way to go!!!

Had cable and sat. tv, Roku is by far the way to go no contracts to worry about just good old fashion tv .

Positives - it works exactly as it's supposed to.
Shortcomings - options are too limited for live channels - I would like to see at least some news or other live programming on Roku so I can completely cut my cable bill.

ROKU 3 PREVIEW

I bought the Roku 3 because I have a HD TV & Cable Box. Installation was extremely easy to do. I hooked up & installed & running in less then 1/2 hour. I am still exploring all the channels etc.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Only Good At Steaming

The Roku boxes are fine if you want to stream in video from a service like Netflix, but they are completely worthless if you want to watch your own photos or video files from a home server. Roku suggests you install Plex on a computer to do this, but that has two big problems:
1. That computer has to be on all the time.
2. You have to store your photos and videos on that computer.

That is simply not a good solution for anyone who wants to keep their photos and videos safe on a home NAS unit.
If you want to be able to view your own files in addition to streaming video, go for the much more capable WDTV.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellence packed into a tiny box

Roku has just about everything you might want in a tiny black box.
The UI is quick, responsive and generally full-featured. What the Roku 3 has in terms of features makes up for it's lows. Netflix, Amazon Prime, RedBox, and too many other TV/movie channels to list all perform as well as you'd expect. Loading up a channel takes only seconds and the quality hits HD in a matter of a few more seconds. The box always remains on in a low power state. Instead of booting up, the Roku is just on all the time. The wait between turning on Roku and watching a movie or TV show is always mere seconds away.
There have been a few minor issues. Once the Roku couldn't grab the signal from my HDMI cable. Unplugging/re-plugging solved the issue. There's the occasional freeze - again, this requires a reboot which is only a few seconds in length. The only thing lacking at this point is support for a browser and youtube. However, those missing features don't drag down the Roku 3 too much.
Overall I'd recommend the Roku 3. It's a solid box that can easily find a place on your entertainment center.

I,m a senior(no games) but am enjoying my Netflix immensely!!!!!!! haven,t even watched local channels at all !!! thank yu! this was worth every penny even though I,ve found out that all I needed was the little one to stream with!! lol!
