Best streaming product out there!

Earlier this year, wife and I got fed up with our cable company's escalating costs (we were paying $100/month and it was about to go up to $130/month) so we started looking into options for streaming. We already streamed casually using our Sony Bluray player, but that was a pain due to various flaws that are irrelevant here. After doing some research we quickly narrowed the field to a Roku or Apple TV.
Despite wonderful reviews from both websites and acquaintances, Apple TV's lack of Amazon Instant Video was a deal-breaker as my wife and I are long-term Prime members. Additional general Roku advantages are the huge selection of channels and the Universal Search feature, which searches all channels for a media title and tells you the options.
Overall, our experience has been great. We spent the extra on the Roku 3 because we were in the market for a primary video device and wanted it to work VERY well. The Roku 3 has been outstanding. The picture is stellar. Menus are responsive and snappy. The remote, which uses radio instead of IR, works great. This includes the headphone jack feature which has great reception and volume. I'm not sure what the expected battery life in the remote is supposed to be, but I have been using the system for over a month--including about 6 hours of headphone use--and the batteries are still going strong. The Universal Search feature works great for us, but I do have a friend that says it sometimes fails to show content he knows to be available on various services. I have not personally noticed this, however. Finally, I wanted to mention the iOS app. It loads quickly and works great. The unit responds as if the commands came from the remote, itself.
Overall, we love the Roku. The user experience has been fabulous and I believe that the device will continue to be updated and supported by Roku as technology and services continue to move forward. I wish there was a channel that allowed us to access content purchased from Apple, but that's not Roku's fault.

Bought this after reading several reviews. Much better than my apple tv only wish I would have bought the roku sooner! Buy one you want be disappointed

I got the Roku 3 mostly for Aereo reception, but also to break free of TV Cable. The Roku 3 is adequate for that purpose. Without Aereo, many (most?) Roku3 "free" channels are just plain trash.

My wife bought my Roku for my birthday and I think it is the best present ever! I can watch my favorite shows, and downloading is simple and fast. I am addicted.

Use mostly for NetFlix; system is head and shoulders above my Samsung Blue-Ray player interface - very happy and saving lots of time.

Works better than I imagined

After baseball season, I realized that everything I really wanted to watch on TV was on Hulu, so I cut ties with satellite. I also, by chance, got an Amazon Prime subscription. I now have even more TV I want to watch since finding new shows is crazy easy (I've been hooked in Sherlock and Sleepy Hollow, shows that had not been on my radar before, but the menus are so easy to navigate, it's easy to find new things to watch). I use Plex to stream my DVD collection from my always-on computer and have not had a dull moment.
