The remote loses the connection ALL the time. I mean like 6 or 8 times an hour. And this is from only 8 feet away. So if you're planning on using the headphone/remote feature, don't get too excited because it's probably not gonna work. It also seems to lose its internet connection to my router quite often, requiring me to pull the power cable out and reset the unit.
I expected a little more from this unit because of all the hype. It really works no better than the next streaming player out there....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought the Roku 3 about a month ago and use it nearly every day. It works well and alows me to watch shows i want to watch.

It has everything I need

I have not had cable/satellite service now for over 5 years. I hated that basic cable was so expensive and I don’t have a clear view of the southern sky for satellite service. So, watching online was affordable and you get used to it. I have been able to watch everything I like online in way one or another using a laptop hooked up to my tv, albeit sometimes a day delayed. Well, the laptop died and Roku was an affordable option to get back to watching TV until I could research a new computer for my home. I love that Roku has all the apps I use/love in one place. I am also so happy that I found an app/channel on Roku to play live streaming local (antenna) programming w/DVR feature. So now, I can watch live local news, or live Sunday football games, which is the only thing I was missing before. (I cannot get antenna reception at my downtown Dallas apartment for some reason either)
I haven't even mentioned how easy this was to set up. I am completely tech illiterate and was able to set up my Roku with ease. Very happy with my purchase of Roku. Even when I get a replacement laptop, I will keep using my Roku as my TV programming service. I love it.

Easy to use, met all my expectations

I bought 2 Roku3s to hook up to my HDTV. I use it with Amazon Prime Instant Video, the Plex channel, and some other channels. I bought the 3 because I wanted the Ethernet port (whole house is wired for ethernet). My wife likes the headphones because I can watch TV late and use the headphones and not wake her up.
The Ethernet port is only a 100Mb port rather than a 1000Mb (Gb) port. That's the reason this got 4 instead of 5 stars.

This unit has no shortcomings. It can stream video and music content from a huge variety of providers like Netflix, Pandora, GrooveShark, Amazon, Hulu, and SomaFM. The audio and video quality is perfect. The WiFi connection is easy to configure and I take the small device on the road.
