My experience with Roku is that I was watching a movie when it suddenly made a loud pop and it shut off. Some of the channels are hard to activate. So far it's still working and it's an excellent alternative when you don't have cable etc.
Pros: Attractive Design
Cons: Difficult setup

We bought the original Roku 1080p boxes and they were fairly buggy on wifi. The Roku 3 is a huge improvement in quality, control and function. The HD signal display is quicker, sharper and rarely freezes. The old box froze on Hulu Plus all the time and reset. We called it, "getting Rokued". Since purchasing the Roku 3, we can count the number of "getting Rokued" resets on one hand. The Roku 3 is a major improvement in every way and we loved the old Roku as well, even if it didn't care for being wireless.
Pros: Fast Setup, Simple Controls, Attractive Design, Improved Audio/Video

Use it with Kindle HD to see CC's

I need Cc's when viewing movies. Kindle fire HD will not transfer cc's to the big screen TV. This is solved by using Roku. I also solved the typing problem by getting a Kindle app for roku. The app gives a Roku remote control on my Kindle screen. I can now use the Kindle typing touch screen for fast entry of search items, etc Great [product, I really like it. I have also use it with Pandora with great results. No turn off power switch is OK even if the unit stays warm to the touch.

VERY Close to perfect

After having used DLink and Western Digital (several versions) media streamers over the years as well as HTPCs, the Roku 3 is close to being a perfect streamer for my family. The ONLY things it is missing is additional format support for locally streamed content and better Plex feature and / or network share support. Improve or add these and I will shout Rokus praises to everyone I know. Perhaps even to random strangers on the street.

Needs improvement

The 750+ channel hype includes mostly 'junk' channels much like the bundles one gets on satellite or cable;no there there. No youtube, no live news other than Sky, no real live sports. CNBC is NOT live. No are any of the TV stations listed, just replays of local news. Overall not happy with the content. The remote burns through batteries like Sherman through Georgia.
Pros: Inexpensive, Easy set up
Cons: Sports Woefully Lacking, Batteries, No Real Live News, Remote Burns Through Batt
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy to set up, most apps work better on the Roku 3 than on a PC or gaming system. The addition of 3rd Party Apps makes this device the most versatile media player I've ever seen.
