Frustrating Product with HP Notebook, Vista

Upon delivery of HP dv9700 Notebook PC with Visat discovered it did not have a parallel port to work with my HP Laserjet 6P - a great workhorse.
After extensive searching, assumed trust for HP to ensure compatibility of Replicator.with HP PC and HP printer - purchased it. Have used it for 1 1/2 years.
Good news - it does have multiple USB ports and has a parallel port. I use nearly all of them. Bad news - whenever Microsoft does a software update (of almost anything) sending a job to the 6P printer gets hung up and shows error on the printer control panel page. Have learned - must get document deleted from printer, delete printer, add the printer again, do not print test page but restart the PC. Then it will work. Extremely frustrating. No new drivers to solve this.
Find a different source for your parallel-USB connection, avoid this one.
