I just installed this unit recently and I really like it. Kwikset was the only manufacturer that made this lock with a contemporary trim that matched my existing lock set. I had a locksmith install it because I'm not that handy, and it took him fifteen minutes.

Great product but buttons no longer light up!

I've had the 909 15 SMT for years. Worked so well I got a second lock for the garage door. Great being able to work outside and not have to worry about carrying keys around anymore. Batteries last for 6 months and that's with daily use. No problems -- until tonight when the buttons on the front door lock wouldn't light up anymore. I replaced the batteries and they still don't light up. Downloaded the Troubleshooting Guide -- nothing in there about testing or resetting the button lights. Don't like the idea now of having to spend another $200 just to get a new lock where the buttons light up.

Peace of mind

I bought this deadbolt a few days ago and I am very impressed. Rekeying the lock was simple, as advertised. Installation took a bit longer than expected, but that was not kwikset's fault - the builder of my home installed the strike plate about .25" too high. The screw pattern was just off enough to prevent me from using the new one included in the kit so I had to get a file and shave the bottom edge of the hole in the strike plate down so the lock would cycle smoothly, and it does. I love the autolock function and the ease of programming. I will definitely get another one of these when I move.

I followed the instructions for coding and have had a devil of a time doing so and have been unsuccessful. I'm waiting for Kwikset to contact me. Hopefully I can return with better news. :(

Great features...but where are the lights?

I bought this lock a month ago for the ease of entering my new house. I've been spoiled in the past by an apartment with an attached garage with a garage door opener and a car with keyless entry. It was an adjustment to have to physically get out my keys to unlock my new house. I know... first world problems... The lock gives me peace of mind that it will lock on its own if I should forget to lock it when leaving. I also love the fact that I can give a code to someone for temporary access - very handy when having work done on the house. My only two complaints: 1) It's fairly noisy. I have hardword floors which seem to amplify it. It definitely makes me jump if I leave the door open and forget about the locking mechanism activating. I'll probably get more used to it in time. 2) The lights blink when I program the lock, but they don't turn on as I enter the code. In fact, they never have. I tried to reset the unit with no luck. It's starting to get dark outside earlier, so this may become a problem. Overall, a great lock for the people who love technology and can't seem to adapt to keys but it does have a few quirks.

The buttons will not light up every time, as a feature to help conserve battery life. However, if you need the keypad to light up (say if evening, or if there is low light), you can simply push the button with the lock icon on it, and it will light up the keypad. This way you can see the keypad in order to enter the numbers in. If this does not solve your problem, there may be another cause, please contact our consumer service team at 1-800-327-LOCK (5625). Positive Experience with Kwikset 910

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am reviewing my Kwikset 910 Zwave locks that I purchased in May 2014. I purchased two of the locks (kitchen and front door) to use with my Vera Lite home automation system. Over the 1.5 years that I have had the locks I am very satisfied with their performance and the support provided by Kwikset.
I have had two challenges with one of the locks (front door). The first challenge was experienced right away with the battery life being extremely short (7-10 days). I contacted Kwikset and they worked with me to troubleshoot the issue. In short, the issue was not with the lock and the resolution was one of the follow up activities suggested by Kwikset (involved the use of another zWave device that could act as a passthru repeater). The second issue I had was a mechanical issue concerning the latching bolt failing to lock. I contacted Kwikset and after troubleshooting with them over the phone, they determined the issue to be mechanical and sent me a replacement lock.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the 910 function, performance and customer support.

Great security and features plus easy installation

The polished brass finish is still like new, and I've been very satisfied with the lock's performance. My experience with this lock turned me into a loyal Kwikset customer. When I decided to add another 909 to my patio door, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the newest version now holds eight codes, instead of just two. Kwikset customer service is great too... very knowledgeable, helpful, and professional.
