I bought this for its large format printing ability. It does a terrific job with color prints. It does an ok job of printing black and white, the contrast gets a bit muddled and shadow detail is lost too quickly.
The CD printing function is cumbersome at best. Even with updating driver information it at times gives error messages regarding wrong media even though the CD carrier is properly loaded. Fortunately that is not a primary task that I bought this printer for.

The print quality is very good and the text/image comes out very clear. However, I had an issue with the DVD tray. It would not go in the slot. I tried to force it in, to no avail. I was about to return the printer due to this reason, for that was the main reason I bought the printer, to print DVDs. Luckily, I discovered that the DVD tray goes in if you slide it in by raising the back, and then pushing forward. If you try to slide it in straight, it stops and won't go through. naturally, this is a problem because I wasn't able to print DVDs. I have bought Epson products in the past, and have been very satisfied, which is why I bought the Epson Stylus Photo 1400. I had an Epson R300 printer which worked very well, until lines started to appear when I printed text. And so, I bought this one. I thought that Epson should be informed that there is a problem when inserting the printer DVD tray. Thank you.

I have this printer for two years,my hard drive crashed, so I had to register again. Quality of the print is excellent, but what is very annoing about this printer is that it stops by itself, and you have to adjust the paper and start the printer again. You have to do that many times if you print many pages.Problem is that you cannot leave it alone and come back, you have to babysit the printer.

some color adjustment

I owned the 1280 and used it for years, printing thousands of large color glossy images. Loved it. It finally quit and I got the 1400 as recommended by Epson sales. Compared to the 1280, it seems to do a lot better on ink. It is also much faster and quieter than the older model, and takes the print data faster too. The colors are good for presentation work and photos are adequate for me, but I am not a professional photographer. It take some experimentation to get the colors rich though, especially for the cyan and getting a rich dark blue. Yellow seemed a little pale as well. Over-all, things print light for me, running a Mac and Photoshop. I always use the settings to change ink % and brightness, etc. I also needed to tweak the levels and curves in photoshop to make everything darker before printing. I need to do a couple of test pages to try to isolate the issue. Other than that, it is a good deal for the money. It went to work right out of the box, cranking out art for a stack of presentation boards. I am an illustrator / designer and it works for me.

After researching many different photo printers we chose the Epson. I'm a scrapbooker and I print my pictures at home. I'm finding the printer very easy to use, the pictures have great color and the cost was very reasonable. I'd highly recommend this printer.

What a power house

Just replaced my Epson Stylus Photo 1400 ink jet printer with another one. Bought my first one 5 or 6 years ago. I print more than the average person and was amazed at how long it lasted. Finally wore it out and was more than pleased to find it still available. I recommend this printer to anyone who needs CD/DVD Label printing as well as printing up to 13 X 19. You won't be sorry and you'll be amazed at the quality it produces.

The Epson Stylus Photo 1400 is truly a "Magnificient Machine". Coupled with Epson papers and inks, it is hard to beat. This is my second one. The first I gave to my sister and when I was ready to replace it, I could find no better printer.

One of the Best Printers!

We use these printers to produce labels with graphics and it is one of the best we have found. The color is true, crisp and vibrant. We have even spilled water on the labels and they have not smeared. I also use it to print photos and again I have not found a better printer. I currently own 3 of these printers.
