This printer was slow and the software does not work well with Windows 7. This printer is supposed to be a photo printer but the quality was not as good as I expected and the photo software did not work well either.
Installing and set-up was a snap. Downloading Windows 7 driver a piece of cake and it works. Need to do some work to get photo color correct - need to remove some red. Only unknown at this time is the life of the ink cartridges
Printer, so far so good as all my other Epson printers have been, but Manual and Reference Guide are much too brief and do not deal with OS10.6 at all. Example: What are all the other Profiles that are listed when Colorsync is chosen? With all the different combinations possible with this machine I think there should be better information, and readily at hand.
The 1400 is faster at printing simple text documents in black & white. Also good with docs that only have text with some color and small use of graphics.
After years of working with Epson's R800, it finally gave up the spirit in December. I would have been perfectly happy to get another R800...but they're no longer made. So, I moved up to the 1400 and it's wonderful: very quiet & faster than my old printer. Since I got it just a few days before Christmas, I haven't printed that many photos yet, but the ones that I've done have been beautiful - fine grain & bright, accurate colors. At this point, I can't comment on how long the ink cartridges last - but I don't expect miracles.
I'm sure that as I use it more and more for work, I'll be even happier.
I loved my Epson 1280, but it literally died on me, so I reluctantly forked out the $$ to buy a new printer, but it's one of the best investments i've done in a long time!
I've been using the Photo Stylus 1400 for almost 2 weeks now and am very pleased with it's performance. I really like the print on cd/dvd feature, I've printed over a dozen dvd's. The results look very professional compared to the peel and stick labels I was using. Photos I have printed are very good using only the photo level instead of Photo Best. Some reviewers have complained about text mode being poor but I find text very acceptable. Draft mode text is very light but that should be expected. I would highly recommend this printer to friends. I contacted customer service on a rebate issue and it was resolved propmtly. The representative was very courteous and easy to understand.
My only con deals with the Epson Easy Photo Print software. I would like more options on the print layout feature or be able to set up custom sizes such as wallet size prints. This may be possible but I haven't found it yet.
