I've had this printer for just a week and I'm amazed at the results. It was easy to set up and is easy to use. You can just use the printer with the out of the box settings, and it produces really nice results.
My Epson stylus photo 200 just died from old age and faithful service. I bought the 1400 as an improved 200 with added features. The first thing I learn is that it is not compatible with my Snow Leopard version of iMac. The way Epson has tried to comfort me is to put some excuses for instructions on the Internet. I have no idea how to use the additional features such as printing on both sides of the paper. I'll use it as a 200.
I purchased this printer in fall 2010 and in January 2011 I upgraded computers and now run Windows 7 Professional -- everything was working great -- print quality still good -- however after running several brochures one day, the next day when I turned it on it was extremely slowing finding/connecting to the printer, then whenever I change a property or page quantity, it again takes forever to find the printer and then when I finally have all my settings like I want them and click on "print" it again takes forever to print -- like up to 10 minutes or more! And it shoots thru a blank page and then stops and waits for the sheet button to be pushed to continue printing, so I can't leave it unattended to print. Print quality is still very good - no complaintss there, but is driving me nuts to get it to print! I also have an Epson Photo Stylus 2200 and it prints fine - no delays -- but print quality is not as good as the 1400. I need to do something -- costing me time and $ waiting for it to decide to print! Great printer and great quality . . if you can afford the time it takes to put it into print action.
This epson 1400 quality is amazing the time it took to print a large photo was surprising. Epson works with speed and ease that any level of user can feel comfortable in using.
outstanding photo's i'm so pleased at this time, concerned about the ink replacement can be very expensive. I'll consider a ink-system that can be purchased for this model.
I had my original 1400 for years and it served me well. I sold it to a small T Shirt printing operation since the 1400 is one of the most user friendly printers for that. I sell a line of note/post cards and prints all made right here on Epson printers. Customers love the vibrant colors and sharp details which generates repeat purchases. This printer can't be beat for the price and quality.
I like this printer. The only disappointment that I have is that epson does not make certain fine art media to work with the DYE BASED INK. I bought a roll of the Photo Canvas knowing that and the print was 'ok' but I definitely needed to bump up the saturation in photoshop to make them look better. Should have bought a 1900! All in all I am happy with the printer otherwise. never had a problem with it for over 2 years.
