Bought this a year ago. It was all good initially, but soon switch to diff hdmi device stopped working. I have to switch off and turn it on all the time I need to change from Apple tv to cable. Second subwoofer output connection stopped working. So my second subwoofer is useless now.
Pros: decent sound quality Lots of hdmi input Airplay facility Dlna Less power consumption Sleek design
Cons:volume button in remote is a joke. You better learn Chinese before calling customer support

This system won't let you play AirPlay or other sources simultaneously on zone 1 and 2.

I am so sorry if you are having issue with the AVR 1710S. Zone 2 is strictly for analog audio sources. Airplay uses digital signal and this will not allow you to play on your zone 2 speakers. Only one of the AVR’s internal sources (iPod, USB, vTuner, Network, AirPlay, DLNA DMR) can be active at a time across both zones. For example, if you are listening to vTuner as the source in Zone 1 and switch the source in Zone 2 to USB, it will switch the source in Zone 1 to USB(and vice versa). To listen to different sources in Zone 1 and Zone 2 at the same time, at least one source must be one of the AVR’s configurable external sources (Cable/Sat, Disc, STB or TV) that is connected to one of the AVR’s analog audio inputs, or one of the AVR’s terrestrial radio sources (FM or AM).
Furthermore, if you want to play 1 source to both zones, you should set the zone 2 speakers back to surround sound speakers. Then, set the surround mode to 7 channel stereo. This will allow you to output sound to all of the speakers.

Wish it had Atmos though so it would be more up to date. It has the ability to update software but there isn’t one available to date.

Impressive Power and Clarity

Purchased receiver to replace a Denon 5.2 receiver that worked very well and rated at 70 watts per channel continuous power. Chose the Harmon Kardon for because of the higher 100 watt per channel rating. Wasn't expecting a huge difference but an extra 30 watts per channel has made a tremendous night and day quality difference. Very impressive performance with outstanding sound quality. Reciever also shines very well with 2 channel stereo music material, which is rare with surround sound receivers. Currently running JBL Studio 270 floor speakers, JBL 520-C center channel and JBL Arena 170 speakers as rear channel effect speakers. Overall high dynamic range and very lifelike sound for movies and music. Very satisfied with the Harmon/ Kardon Recievers performance a lot of muscle and quality in the design.
