And I came home with a great set of speakers

Not shopping for speakers, I went to my closest Sony retail outlet to compare/contrast some exquisite Sony/Zeiss lenses for my next photo purchase. As I was shooting some different pics to compare lenses (onto a CF card brought from home), I noticed although subtly...some very nice tunes streaming from the back of the store. As I was drawn to the speakers...It dawned on me that I would really like them jacked into my Bedroom system...I critically listened to them....it dawned on me that the speaker/amp combo ....would be great for my boys....Very nice sweet clear highs...with plenty of bass punch to boot....for Christmas! My Kids neighbors are going to hate me for this... Anyway, the only pr of these in the store, were floor/demo models.....they are now in my bedroom....a welcome addition. The boss is happy with them too. Let me just say that I was planning on spending significantly greater amounts on my BR speakers..but am totally satisfied with these....reallyreally. Nice! Am I a critical listener???? Yes! The familyroom is all tube sound....with Gigawatts of power......
The sonys again as always...satisfy my critical ear ( and eye)...especially at this pricepoint.......
ps. the PS3...with its upsampler....is probably one of the best "CD" players out there...not to mention DVD, Blue Ray, Games etc. It jacks nicely into the other sony components......
What's great about it: Nice ...bright.....big bass.....Killer Value
What's not so great: Are you kidding? There are none!

I recently built my first home theater, and decided to go with Sony speakers. I paired the Floor Standing 5000's with a 5000 series Center Channel and a set of 1000 series Bookshelf speakers for the surrounds. The sound is really amazing! I was impressed with the range of frequencies and clarity these speakers produced. Lows, mids, highs......beautiful! When I added a sub, I couldn't believe how much more enjoyable the system became. I have everything hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V471 5.1 receiver. I am soon going to replace the Bookshelf surrounds with another pair of these Floor Standing 5000's.
What's great about it: Sound Quality, Price
What's not so great: None

I was skeptical at first

I just replaced my 36 year old Smaller Advent speakers (which were re-coned in '90 in case you were wondering how they lasted this long) because I just bought a new receiver to replace my 23 year old Optimus receiver which developed a buzzy hum after all of these years. Now nothing was wrong with these Advents except the 4 ohm impedance was making the new receiver kinda hot (as they did with the Optimus) and they would click in the safety circuit if I tried to crank them on my new receiver. (Happened just once but that was enough). And besides, I wanted a change. Now, you may say these Advents are a hard act to follow by the Sonys, and that is true. I was experiencing some 'buyer’s remorse’ at first. But as I experimented with these speakers through my EQ, I was able to mimic a highly similar effect as with the Advents. In fact, if you play around with the frequencies, the sound from these speakers can be astonishing despite their smallish size (for floor speakers that is). So I would say these speakers are quite nice provided you have the tools to tweak them. The high end is not bad (something somewhat lacking in my Advents). But, in my opinion, ‘out of the box’ the Sonys are, at first listen, mediocre. If you have an EQ, or you can shape the output from these speakers, then I would say, “go for it”.
What's great about it: Nice value, nice style, nice highs and midrange
What's not so great: out of the box at first listen, mediocre.

I finally completed my true home theater setup, I bought these speakers at Best Buy and added a 7.1 sony reciver the 8220, sony centr channel, sony bookshelf speakers (4). connecting took only about 15 mintues and powered it up, i had to play around with the sound to hear the right balanced in both treble and bass. I will recomend on the reciver unless other wise do not add alot of bass and treble atleast until you have had the speakers for a few months. that way they can get used to the sound you feed it, even then i wouldnt really recomend it because the soundtracks and sound effects on movies and music CD's create that automatically. sometimes adding to much creates annoying sound. Also be sure all speakers are connected with the same length of speaker cables because if having one speaker cable longe than the other it will lead to lagging sound.
both blurays and dvds sound amazing, the separation is awesome, i hear the sounds alot better when traveling to each speakers its like special space of sounds for each speaker. I also added a sony sub 12' mica reinforced woofer and with the bass that each speaker packs man the sub just adds a killer expireance.
What's great about it: SOUND QUALITY, SOUND SEPARATION
What's not so great: DESIGN

I must say that I am overall very happy with these speakers. I have owned them for about a year and they have not given me any issues, and are much better then people give them credit for. While they do not match up to my dad's Bowers & Wilkins speakers they can hold there own against the likes of the Polk Monitor Series.
I would recommed these speakers to anyone looking to get a great value and a quality speaker.
What's great about it: Good sound, nice highs and lows
