I use the product to charge my phone when I do not have access to an outlet. When I use the switch 8 at full charge to charge my phone, I was only able to get about 60% charge on my phone before the switch 8 no longe has power. It does not charge my phone 3 times as advertised. My Phone was completely off the whole time and i'm very dissapointed with the switch8.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Portable, Versatile, A Life Saver

I have had a lot of iPhone chargers over the years, and this one stands out above the rest. It is reliable, I don't have to worry about it unplugging from my phone while on the go, it is rechargeable, I can charge it on my Mac, any USB port, even while my phone is charging through the device. It is small, light weight, durable, and I can get one full iPhone 5 charge out of the Switch 8. It pairs great with the Nomad 7 or any Goal Zero panel. The LED charge indicator lights are very helpful. I use the Switch mostly when traveling on foot in a rural or urban environment, extending the life of my iPhone substantially. It is a staple in my messenger bag and travel kit.
This is a good portable battery. Charges in a few hours, I keep it plugged in to the wall or my solar panel. This, along with the Nomad 7 make a good duo. The battery charges one of my devices on one charge. Can fully revive my phone or Itouch. If you want more from a portable battery, i suggest looking at the medium range stuff, this is the most minimal option. I went along with it for the convenience and price. High quality for the price but I wouldnt mind stepping up to a higher range portable battery.

A few years ago, my husband suffered a stroke while vacationing far from home. I didn't think of grabbing my cell phone charger while climbing into the ambulance. I used up my battery calling family and friends requesting prayer. When we got to the hospital, I could not talk with family. I felt panic. I went asking all the nurses if they had the charger I needed. I don't have to worry about that happening again. With the Goal zero Switch 8 Recharger I can recharge anywhere without electricity. I carry it in my purse all the time. Thank you Goal Zero for that peace of mind.

Great Device!

This is a great little device. It charges quickly from an outlet and is very handy to have around. I keep it in my glove compartment and lay the solar panels (Nomad 7) on the dash board. When I come out to the car at the end of the day, it's charged. I easily charge my iPhone 5 with it and an iPod. Very convenient to carry around. I recommend this to anyone interested in a small power source that is quickly chargeable. It would be nice to have interchangeable tips, or a way to screw two or three end to end to double or triple the output.
I love the idea behind this product, it's well made except for one thing. This is a nice sturdy product except for the tips. The tips are made of plastic and the threads aren't as strong as they could be. The tips on mine arrived fairly loose so I took them off just to check it out, since I heard that they were interchangeable. I almost didn't get mine back on again without stripping the threads. Plus I have't seen any replacement tips, so maybe it doesn't really matter. Once I got it back on straight and screwed down tight it seems fine, but I am still worried that this will be the failure point. If the replacement tips are cheap enough them it won't matter, because you can just buy what you need and move on. I gave only 4 stars because of this weakness, other than that it's great.

Unfortunately, I wanted this to charge my smartphone when camping at music festivals and camping in general. You have to have the power pack in order to charge a smartphone at all which is a bit ridiculous that you have to buy an extra piece equipment for that. I did enjoy the product other than that, just wish I had been told before buying the product instead of having to read about it in the enclosed information.

Will not charge and iPhone

I bought the Nomad 7 with the intent of charging my iPhone 4s while out kayaking. I was out on a sunny day with the solar panel angled exactly like the picture is shown, and it would not charge my phone. It recognized that it was plugged in, but the battery will not actually charge. I recommend using a higher watt panel if you intend to charge an iPhone.
