Good replacement for older cooktop

The old one was cracked when I dropped a glass pyrex top on the edge. Then I turned the cooktop on and it cracked all the way to the other side. The old one is no longer available, so we picked out this one. Installation was quick and easy and It works great and cleans up well.

My flat top

This is my second flat top. The first on had a lip aroun the perimeter so any spills were contained. The new will allow spills to go all over the counter top.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrific insulation

Good cooktop. Easy installation. Great insulation on the bottom---we used to worry about the heat from our old cooktop, but this one doesn't warm up the utensils in the drawer beneath it. Takes more cleaning effort that I thought it would, but still better than the drip pans we used to have.

We are a bit concerned about how to clean this new GE Range Top and whether this glass range top is going to scratch easily when using different styles of pots & pans on it, or whether we need to use specific types of pots & pans in order to avoid scratching this range top, and what type of cleaner is best to use in order to avoid scratching this new range top?

I can't find any great features on this cooktop.

It is all black and difficult to get used to the knobs for each burner. Every mark shows up on it and I need to use the cleaner to make it look clean EVERYTIME I use it.

This stove top was easily installed by my husband; looks great; heats quickly and cooks well with steady heat. I found that the only thing you have to watch for is when you have something to keep warm - the warm setting will continue to simmer whatever is on that burner, so the heat may need further lower adjustment. Otherwise, I use this top the same way I used my old electric: I DO use my coated cast iron, and my metal heat diffusers on this surface, and there are no ill effects. I am careful to leave them in one spot and not "scrape" them on the top.

Liked My Old One Better

I had to replace the GE smooth cooktop that we've had since 2000 because my son broke the glass. This cooktop is essentially the same, but I've found that it's harder to clean. My old one had a slightly textured surface and a lot of white speckles on it. Because this one is so shiny and doesn't have the same surface as the old one, it shows every spot, spill and scorch. It never, ever looks clean. Neither the cooktop cleaner that came with it nor my old, reliable Barkeeper's Friend help. It's still better than coils though.
