I learned 2 luv it!

I've had this camcorder a little over 3 years and I learn something new every time I use it. I've learned that DVD-RW disc will do what we all want to do, delete, divide, erase totally and a host of other things. The DVD-R disc however, will only record and doesn't even need initializing. When viewing on your TV, it's so simple, a kid can do it. I mean 1 three-prong cord with red, yellow & white, duh! where could they go? When playing on my computer, I've found that the DVD-RW are the best and of course, it's hit or miss with your DVD players. It does specifically tell you that once you elect the VR mode, the DVD player must be compatible. All in all, I love my Canon product and I would recommend it to my firends.
Pros: easy to operate after reading instructions
Cons: box should say "plug before intializing/finalizing
I would recommend this to a friend!

So good and yet so hard

I've had/used this Canon DC210 Mini CamCorder now for about 18 months. It's a very handy camera, easy to use, takes quality pictures/videos, very rugged and small enough to satisfy even the pickiest person. All in all I'd rate the camera as a "4".
Reason I don't rate it 5 is due to the intricacies of finalizing the minidisk following use AND the inability to have the content of the disk play back in most; if not all, of the standard DVD players.
Once you capture the knack of finalizing the disk; and it took me a lot of tries and a lot of help from others on the internet who were experiencing the same problems, it all goes smoothly.
That is until you want to actually see what's on the disk. Lot's of luck in that area. As I said, I have many of the most used and reliable CD/DVD viewers loaded on my desktop - only 1 time did I ever get one to open and show the video I had taken, and that was over a year ago.
Since then I have acquired all sorts of "disks" that are "full" according to the dialog box that opens when I insert them into one or the other of my drives, but in fact are either brand new, formatted and had never been in a computer drive until I shot videos and attempted to transfer the contents of the disk to my desktop.
Of course, something could be wrong with my desktop but it plays everything else I use without any crazy messages.
All I get is continual dialog boxes that ask me to "Please insert a disk in drive X", although the disk is already in there. Or it tells me that Windows cannot read the disk, etc.
Guess the bottom line is: if you are game enough to try and smart enough to whip this camera's unique capability for out-foxing you at every term, it is a great camera.

The canon Camcord DC 210 is a starter camcord, reason
1. you cant edit your DVD's it's impossible.
2. the DVD's will not play on your computer or in a DVD player.
3. you only have 30 min to record your event.
4. I like the ability to record at night and their isnt any night vision so it wont happen.
5. your battery wont even last for as long as your DVD can record.

If you are a video editor and like to try and make your videos better, dont get this camcord. because your going to need to find special software which canon dosen't offer, and cables to your computer that dont exist.
I wish someone wrote a review like this so I knew what I was getting myself into.

Not good fro modern times

This is an obsolete product. Taking videos is easy but then the problems start. The disk requires FINALIZING before one can view it on a regular DVD player or computer. Only after getting help from Canon FAQs I could figure out that the camera must be connected to powercord in order to FINALIZE!! Editing or saving tracks is impossible. Even the small FLIP gives a better quality video than this one. This was a waste of money.
Cons: Difficult TV Connectivity, Difficult Computer Connectivity, Short battery life, Difficult to use, Poor Low-Light Performance
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
