I have used both v700 and v750 scanners. Both are good for photographers as well as for pre-press users, like offset or digital printing. It gives you very sharp image, highlights and shadow details. Epson software understands photography values and gives you closest color to the original exposure. The only problem in v700 that it doesn't have oil mounting provision but I have tried oil mounting frame of v750 with v700. When I scanned 6 x 7 cm transparencies mounted with mounting oil, I got better results than durm scanner. I would like to recommend epson people to provide oil mounting frame with v700.

A gem

For a number of years I have used a smaller slide scanner to digitize a selection of my 30,000 slides from the years of travel that predate my conversion to digital photography. That scanner developed a hardware problem, so I searched for a replacement and found a review of the V700. One could call it slightly pricey for an (avid) amateur photographer but its value per dollar is exceptional. My throughput is 4 times greater now, about 16 slides an hour, including the time to clean slides with Bestine and lintless cotton swabs and all the post-processing I do. In part it's because it scans 12 slides at a time (in about 14 minutes), and more so because the subsequent need for color and exposure correction is minimal. Kodachromes, Ektachromes, Fuji and Agfa products all scan well in one go, despite their very different pigments that used to create havoc with my older scanner. The resolution is higher, also - 4800 dpi vs 2720 from my old scanner. The 48-bit scanning is used to create automatically a 24-bit image in the appropriate density range, so that dark and light slides all scan together in one batch. The Dmax is also very good, at 4.0. Digital Ice and grain reduction reduce artifacts, further reducing post-processing that I do in Picture Window 5.0 (I haven't yet tried the Silverfast that comes with the scanner). The automatic settings for exposure and color balance can be overridden but they are exceptionally good as is. One little extra that I appreciate in my workflow is that slides can be scanned in either horizontal or vertical orientations - no more image rotations. Also, scans quickly become available one-by-one, so that, as the later slides are being scanned in a batch,I can go to PW Pro and start tweaking and renaming the images that have already been scanned. This is a substantial beast, with the feeling of being well-made. I'll be dedicating it to slide scanning.

V750 Scanner

I have had this scanner since 2007. Over the years, I've scanned hundreds of 35mm & 120 slides & negatives. Even though it was a flat bed scanner, it did a very good job scanning all that. I've also been able to scan negatives using the Film Area Guide and it was just like making contact sheets in the darkroom. Very nice.

Great Scanner - Software Fail

I purchased the V700 a few years back and used it for years without a problem. Then I upgraded my OS and the Silverfast software it came with - much better then the Epson Scan - is incompatible with the newer MacOS's.
I don't want to drop another few hundred for the software so stuck using the Epson software. In addition, Firewire communication does not work in the later MacOS's so I'm scanning through USB 2.0
Little frustrations make a big headache.

Great Scanner overall

Overall this is a great scanner. The main negative feature is that the scanner does not take in all of the glass scanning area, so the user needs to be aware of that limitation.
The V700 has scanned thousands of pictures and negatives and the resulting scans are excellent.

Great machine, cheap holders

While I have to say that this scanner - the Epson V700 far-surpasses any other scanner I have ever used, I am disappointed in the flimsy, almost toy-like quality of the plastic frames which snap down on 120 and 35mm film strips. For an item of this price range, reinforced frames would have been a minimum expectation. This is not professional quality. The scanner itself, however, is a dream and offers incredible detail. It even sounds good whirring a away on my desk top. Additionally, there's no place to store the frames, and they slide all over the place, eventually ending up on the floor. The native scanning software is not bad but takes a little getting used to. One has to be very careful, once levels have been set, not to apply a template, as the level settings will be lost. Stuff like that will hopefully be refined in later editions.

I finally made up my mind and purchased an Epson scanner. Best decision I could have made. This exquisite piece of equipment absolutely rocks. Right out of the box I was scanning 8x10's from a recent cruise vacation and creating perfect copies. Scanning slides and negatives could not be easier or more perfect. The included software does all it's supposed to, flawlessly. Scanning dimensional items produce unbelievable results. I might not have needed the top model, but better to have it all at my fingertips if and when I want it all. THE ONLY WAY TO GO!!
