Plug the V 700 into power and USB 2.0, and it scans. There are no Epson drivers for Lion 10.7.2 and the instructions at Epson's website create the impression there is until one discovers that at present Image Capture by Apple is the only driver for the V 700 Pro at present. Or VueScan which provides a much better scan program. What I am unable to do and originally sparked my reason to spend many hundreds for a new scanner was to archive hundreds of photographs to disc and in the process clean up the specs and dust, improve the color, "repair" certain levels of tearing/damage. But that is premature. Admittedly previous previews referred to this problem so I shall not play the victim. Typically Epson is so far behind as far as Mac users are concerned, that I feel comfortable holding them up as a major disappointment. For the record, all my ink jet/scanners are Epson.

This scanner has been all that I expected and more it takes any photo or image and will transform it into a much better product. Have no regrets in purchasing this scanner. I have owned it for 11 months with no problems. So if you want a scanner with top notch capabilities this is it.

Great scanner

this scanner worked brilliantly right out of the box. for the first few initial scans without any tweaking, the color values were phenomenal. we haven't even begun to explore the built in options which we are looking forward to availing ourselves of, especially given this scanner's initial performance. first scan was of an original artwork still in the frame, including the glass. no glare, no streaking, no evidence of the glass in the scan at all. great color definition and detail in the drawing. we are very pleased since this will be used for fine art. love that it is absolutely compatible with the mac operating system.

I have installed the v-700 software and the Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 and absolutely nothing is working!! Nothing comes up as shown on the instruction sheet. There are no instructions on how to get started. Very disappointing.

Out of Focus

This is scanner might be fine for paper, photographs, and similar items, but it is a terrible film scanner.
The Scanner has the resolution to resolve all the detail of most films but it is almost impossible to get that detail. The film holders are terrible they are flimsy and do a poor job of holding film tight. That is a mild problem compared the complete inability to find the focal point of the scanner. Scans are completely out of focus using the standard holders, and only slightly better with aftermarket holders. The solution is a lens that can auto focus or a larger depth of field. Personally I would prefer both, but either would significantly improve the scanner.
The short comings are well known and discussed on online forms, but there are some that can get the v700 and v750 to perform great. Many, including myself, think the manufacturing variance form unit to unit is responsible for wide range of opinions on the scanner. You might get lucky and get a good one, but most likely it will just frustrate you and waste your time.
Pros • Plenty of Resolution • Digital Ice
Cons • Out of focus when scanning film • Shallow Depth of Field for scanning film • Flimsy Film Holders • USB 2.0 or Firewire 400
TL:DR - This is a terrible scanner for film. Do not buy unless you are working with large format film. Fine scanner for paper, prints and similar.

Please ignore the previous comment I posted. My new computer with Win 8.1 now readily works with the V700 scanner. Turned out to be a problem with my computer software. I also want to thank the Epson technical staff who were quick to respond and very helpful. I look forward to continue copying my family photos, slides and documents.

Great for slides

This scanner is working great. I have scanned over 1000 slides so far and it has not skipped a beat. I use the "Full Auto" mode and have been very happy with the quality of the scans. Only squwak is the conflict of drivers since I have also an Epson multiprinter for other tasks which causes install issues with SilverFast...
