My First Front Load Washer

This washer was the 2nd one I have ever purchased. My first one is still running, but gave to my parents. I have owned this washer 3/4 of a year and it has worked well. I am hoping I am saving water and electricity with this washer. It also seems more gentle on clothes than my vertical agitator washer. I also like the fact that I can wash a queen size comforter in the washer. The controls of the washer are straight forward. I m very pleased with the washer. The true test will be how long the washer lasts. I picked this model because the motor directly drives the washer so there should be less parts to break and it should be more reliable.

Relialibility of Whirlpool

After 30 years it was time to replace the Whirlpool Imperial washer. We were very impressed how quiet the "Duet" ran and with all of it"s features. Having a front loading washer makes it so much easier to remove wet laundry and transfer to the dryer. We have recommended our friends to seriously consider looking into the Whirlpool product line.

The washer takes super long time to wash and spin. (At least 59 minutes for a regular load) The clothes are just damp when the wash cycle is complete so, therefore it cuts down on drying time. You can only use HE detergents, which I wasn't used to. Scared to use fabric softener for fear it will clog the drum. The clothes are quite wrinkled when dry. I don't know if this is from the washing process or the dryer. The washer is too high and too wide for me to use the cupboard above it anymore. The wash and dry feature for a small load didn't dry too well.

I had such high hopes for this washer but it does not clean the clothes. My sons baseball clothes need two washings with a long soak before. Wishing for my old front loader that used 1/4 of the laundry detergent and got the clothes really clean.

Generally, I love my new Whirpool washer and dryer...and the sounds they make are so much more pleasant than my really old mis-matched laundry pair. But that doesn't mean that I have absolutely no recommendations and things that I could really use that are missing. There is no way to adjust, especially decrease, the size of a load of wash to influence water consumption. I hate how long most loads take, so i tend to use the normal (still long) or quick wash, but I would really like to have the option of tinkering with the times and temps of other loads. I probably will never use the other kinds of loads with just two of us creating dirty laundry. Also, I can't figure out where to put liquid Lysol, something I use on occasion if one of us has a cold/illness. I love how dry the clothes and towels are after the spin. At least the dryer has a few more, though not enough, changeable settings. And I have already influenced my sister-in-law and brother-in-law to buy the same set.

This washer seems to get clothes clean. Something I didn't think I would use is the delay start but I use it all the time now. Only thing I don't like is how long it takes.
