A fine Fast Fifty

The fast fifty lens has been a mainstay of camera bags for many years, and they still have a place today. This Sony 50/1.4 lens is solid and reliable, a continuation of the fine Minolta 50's of times past. If you're shooting with one of the APS-C sensor SLTs, this will give you an equivalent to 75mm which is a fine portrait focal length. If you're lucky enough to be using this on one of the Full Frame bodies, then you'll be prepared for just about anything with the 50mm standard field-of-view and ultra-fast f/1.4 maximum aperture. And better still, it's not an expensive lens to buy, either.
Pros: Quality, Value for Money, Design, Durability

Great standard lens for a reasonable price

This is a great little lens light weight, fairly cheap and fast at F1.4. The lens comes with a lens hood included which is useful but the lens is fairly resistant to flare so its not needed most of the time. The bokeh the lens produces can be a little sharp when wide open down to F2 if you have a busy background, stopping down below F2 smooths everything up nicely which is pretty standard for fast fifties. The lens is screw drive but is fast and accurate on my A99.
