I have drunk a LOT of diet cola over the years. I know the flavor of them all. I have had all the flavors of coca cola (Different bottling plants, different recipes, different ratios of syrup), all the flavors of pepsi, all the flavors of the off brands, and all the flavors of the store brands.
I am a cola aficionado. And I believe I can say with authority that this tastes sort of like a blend between RC cola and some of the store brands. It has a very harsh after taste that you tend to find with blends that need some work.
Cola should be sweet with a smooth tangy finish. This recipe has almost a chemical finish which isn't very appealing.
I've played with the syrup ratio to see if it changes the flavor and I've found it improves the flavor if I just put more syrup into the liter tank. But it still isn't quite right.
What you want to go for ideally is either diet coke or diet pepsi. You can improvise on either of those once you have mastered ONE of them. Until then, please keep tweaking this recipe to see if you can't dial it in a bit closer either of the gold standards.

This product causes headaches and nausea. I don't have problem with the older artificial sweeteners like Equal and Sweet N Low but what ever they use makes me sick.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been purchasing SodaStream Diet Cola for several years. We have enjoyed Diet Cola. It is absolutely delicious! Just yesterday I amazed another person with the amazing taste and have added another convert to the SodaStream products and systems. We entertain a lot and Diet Cola is always the top pick, but when you host a party that includes the football team of our local high school and Diet Cola is their top pick, that says a lot! I enjoy mine with a wedge of lime, so refreshing especially in this Texas heat.
