As a tech savvy individual, I can typically work with just about any electronic device and make use of all of the advanced features. This printer/scanner/fax is just infuriating to use. The firmware is limited and unfriendly, and the software for the computer thinks you only like to deal in images/photos. Multiple versions of the same printer keep getting installed since the originals just no longer connect. Often the printer will confuse itself and start over, repeating some pages in the middle of a batch and getting them out of order. My parents also have this printer, and it's the same issues. This model is terrible. Even the paper trays are setup poorly, not even able to catch the output print. The paper just spills onto the desk.
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, Low Quality Output, unreliable, Flimsy Construction

Truly one of the best!

This Canon printer is super wonderful! I also own the Canon PIXMA IP100 Mobile Photo Printer since Feb 2009. I love that printer because it was mobile, small and printed beautiful photos as well as documents. But lately is started to have a few problems (going to have it repaired) that I had to put it on the shelf for this new Canon MX452. I really wanted something that was 100% wireless without sending it a cloud. This printer does everything that is says it will do and more. Printing, scanning, and faxing is a breeze! And it really is 100% wireless! I installed the software (CD) that came with the printer on my Windows 8 PC with no problems at all. I recommend the software that came with the printer because it's just easier. Plus there are a few programs that are very helpful that work well with your printer. The Canon website also has the software on line, but then you have to install each program individually.
I had to use the printer USB cable that came with the printer in order for me to connect wireless. But you may or may not need to use the cable like I had to in order to set it up. The software and cable came in handy and connected me right away. After 1 minute the printer recognized my network. I put in my network password and connected and then the installation CD asked you to remove the printer cable to then go wireless. The only cord that is used is the power cord and the telephone cord for the faxing. Best part is I can print now from anywhere in the house from my laptop or tablet and even my Android cell. Goggle play has a Canon app which needs major work (that's another review), but the cell app is really not needed since mostly every program or web page has a print button to click on. Just make sure you don't turn off the printer power button. When the printer is not in use the printer will just go to sleep to reduce the power. But as soon as you click print or any other feature the printer will wake up immediately.
Printing documents is sharp and clear and what I love best is that is only needs two inks for the tanks. Which will save you money. Most printer brands these days need 5 or more inks cartridges. So far the ink is still going strong and has not run out. We use the printer for personal use everyday. The only thing I wish Canon would of spent more time in perfecting this printer is adding more tools (editing or cropping) to the scanning features of the printer. Not really the best like the other features and needs work, but will get the scanning job done. Scanning documents came out better for me when I scanned on the glass or directly from the PC. Not so great from the top feeder. This printer even has an area just for scanning photo negatives which is nice. Photo printing is really nice, but I didn't really purchase this for my photos even though they do print beautiful. But overall for the low price and for everything that this printer does it is a purchase that I would truly recommend with flying colors!
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, Small Footprint, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use, excellent price!
Cons: scanning features needs more tools for documents, scans documents too light through top feeder

Wireless is worthless

I’ve had this model for several years. It has never worked right. Every few times I use it, it has to be uninstalled and reinstalled. The wireless works one or two times and then no longer works. The scan does not work from the device; you have to pull up scan on my computer and push the button. It’s a strange printer. I just never had the motivation to repack it.

Good Value - Missing Scan Features
on June 4, 2013

I just purchased the MX450 printer to replace another printer. I wanted a wireless, full-featured printer capable of printing and scanning. Overall the print quality seems good, but wireless setup was not clear from the meager documentation that is included. My primary complaint is that there is no Scan to an editable file capability (RTF, etc.). This is a major deficiency for those who do a lot of document scanning.
Pros: High Quality Output
Cons: Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, no scan to rtf

Not sure what all the other reviews are talking about. canon by far is the better product. Quick and easy to set up. Also it actually prints quite fast. There are different settings on here to make the operation quieter which may slow down the printing. The quality of the print is really good. Also the replacement ink cartridges are not pricey as some other printers ink is. Guess its hard to compare unless others have used other brand name or none brand name printers. Defiantly great value and one of the best purchases I have made. So there is options to speed up the printing depending on your preferences.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use

Horrid Keypad, Worse Instructions
on July 16, 2013

OK, it is a cheap printer. However the keypad is from 1999. The instructions are non-existent.. Nothing on how to use the Bedrock-like keypad to enter the WEP code. You have to us the CD or software. And like most printer software packages, it simply overwrites most of your other settings.
Pros: value
Cons: Difficult Setup

Have to Re-Install Drivers for every use
on May 1, 2017

Have to re-install drivers for every use. Gets so annoying that it won't stay on wifi network, and doesn't respond to my laptop the next day after re-installing everything...again. I've probably installed and uninstalled the programs for this printer about 30 times in the past 6 months.
