If you need a new hobby and have a ton of time to spend troubleshooting a printer this is the printer for you!
It prints okay, when you can get it to print.
The Windows driver is horrible and doesn't work in 7 or 8. The only somewhat reliable driver I have found for this machine is the Linux driver (Debian specifically). I say somewhat, because sometimes it takes 30 min for it to print.

Wireless fail

I bought this printer 2 years ago and have had zero issues locating ink or anything like that. It just never wants to stay connected to the wifi. I have been printing multiple word documents, and it will literally print one fine then fail on the second... It just hangs and never prints.

Pixma printers

I've had two Pixma printers, an MP600 and MP610 and they're mediocre at best. Have also used an MG5220 at a relative's home with the same results. Set up IS a pain, you can't print black and white if ANY of the ink trays, colored or not, are empty and every one of these printers goes through a 3-5 minute "processing" phase before it will print. No such thing as plug and play here. There are often hesitations during the printing for God knows what. I've never had this issue w/ HP. The finished product is nice, but I can make breakfast in the amount of time it takes to actually do the job. Will never buy another Canon printer. All the guys I know who use desktop printers for business do not own a Canon - not one.

If you enjoy not printing

Buy this printer. I have stared at a spinning wheel half of the day. In order to make this printer work, I need to reinstall the driver, reset my modem and restart every 5 print jobs. What a waste of time and money. I'll never buy another Canon printer (or camera) again.

Fax Problems

Lousy fax setup. Still cannot fax. The online directions for fax do not cover wall outlet connections with no handset.
Pros: durable
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Difficult Setup

Canon's worst printer ever!!!!

This is probably my tenth Canon printer and undoubtedly my last. The physical quality is horrible, very cheap, I'm expecting it to break every time I touch it. But the worst is the menu system. I have had it for four months and literally cannot scan a document. All I can accomplish with the menu is to get a series of beeps telling me that I'm done something wrong but no hint of what it is. Honestly, is this the best that Canon can do? It's not possible that they did ANY user testing of this menu. It's appallingly bad.
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup, Low Quality Output, unreliable, Flimsy Construction

Worst purchase ever

Machine completely fails to scan or print from the device, although it works from the PC. The message "please wait a while" appears in the tiny unlit LCD, then reverts to the menu, without any scan or print. This has been written about in many blog complaints for other Canon scanners and printers. Apparently Canon is not going to fix it. The real manual is avaiIable only online, and it is inscrutable; it tries to be a one-size-fits-all for all products in its class. I will never buy another Canon product.
