Just purchased the 17n4 model. It is by far the best machine i have used. I had a different manufacturer style for years. I wish I would have purchased the Bissell. What a great machine. I had one stain that I thought would never get clean. The Bissell took care of it. I also like the Bissell solution better than the other brands. I nice clean smell, not overpowering.

General Disappointment

It just didn't work well in picking up dirt. Also, the unit did not heat up at all. I used the floor tool to clean my basement floor. I expected this to really be able to pick up light level dirt, but it was just terrible, pushing dirt forward with no steam ability whatsoever. Wish I did not buy it. I ended up using a simple mop which did a much better job...sad.

Sounds like you're using this on a hard floor? If so make sure you use this deep cleaner with the optional bare floor tool. Excellent product, but you must rinse!

I bought this on a whim when I saw it on clearance at a local store, so I had not read any product info prior to purchase. I used it today on my 28 year old carpet, and it is awesome! The carpet looks new again. Be aware though, it has no rinse function, so you have to go over the entire carpet with a clean water rinse after you are done with the scrubbing. I did two rinses to be sure I removed all traces of the cleaning solution. The rinses brought more dirt out of the carpet (as evidenced by the dirty water). The Bissell Pet cleaning solution was overwhelmingly powerful until I did the double rinse. I called the Bissell consumer line to ask about rinsing, and was told you have to rinse after cleaning with this machine, but the Pro-Heat has a rinse function. The only cons the heaviness of the machine, and the handheld accessory and hose kept falling off. Not a big deal. This is a great machine!

Great review Sheila. Just like you found out, you can rinse it, but you need to fill the main tank with water and no formula. Also, for the hose, it will lock into place if you have the trigger in the oblong slot. Thanks again.

I bought this cleaner yesterday and I am absolutely sold on it. We have a Dalmatian, and I was shocked at how much hair this machine picked up. I even vacuumed twice before using this! In addition to the carpet and the stairs, I even used this on the couch and it got out a stain that was too stubborn for upholstery cleaner. Definitely worth the money!

I had an older ProHeat for a long time and used it a lot, and it just died in the middle of cleaning the family room carpet, which was REALLY dirty. This model was so good at cleaning I thought I was seeing things. Out performed the old model (even when that was new). Our light colored carpet had dirty heavy traffic areas; plus we have a dog and 2 cats. This carpet looked brand new when all done and dried (and it's 15 yrs old). I used the Bissell Professional Deep Cleaning formula with this machine; much better results than other formulas in my opinion. I like the fact that this model is a bit easier to use and clean out than the older ProHeat and slightly lighter weight. I've had professional cleaners over the years and this machine out did their work by a long shot. It was amazing how much crud came up in the suction, even after vacuuming before cleaning. I have not used the tools yet so I cannot comment as to how they perform. I have to admit I think I'm happy the old unit broke down. I would recommend this product.

I did a lot of research on carpet cleaners after my Hoover broke down (14 years). I was considering getting another Hoover, but after reading reviews on several models, it seemed that Bissell had better reviews. I'm so glad I got this model, my carpets looked brand new, even took out old stains. I did a lot of research and I don't do reviews on items unless I feel they deserve it, this is only my 2nd review ever on an item in over 50 years. This cleaner is wonderful. You won't regret it, its easy to use and cleans a lot more space without having to get a new tank of water compared to my old cleaner.
