Mediocre print quality

The scan utility is very user friendly and it copies well, but the print quality is only average. Although the Pixma MP160 is not sold as a photo printer, Canon's own description claims that this machine prints photo lab quality photos. There is nothing true about that claim. Even using high quality photo paper - matte AND glossy - and with the appropriate settings, the colors are not true and the image is grainy. Overall clarity is average. I have a printer that cost half as much as this one, of another brand, that prints better quality photos than the MP160. Additionally, colors are not true on documents.
I have moved this printer to my office desk because it does scan, copy, and print documents very well (just keep in mind that if you are printing color documents the colors will probably be off). As for photos or image-based projects I would recommend you look for something with better image printing quality. For the price of this all-in-one though, I did not expect fabulous photos and, therefore, it is a good value for the money. It's a relatively inexpensive multi-function printer.
As for recommending this printer to a friend, it would depend on what their need would be. Casual use - yes; more detailed applications - no.
Pros: Easy Setup, fast print speed, easy to use, reasonable ink consumption
Cons: Dull Tones & Colors, does not print good quality photos as suggested
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It was good for 2 years (Jan 2007 - Dec 2008). Then it won't install into new computer(the scan part), even it is still a XP OS. The website's update still won't work as the zip file won't work. I think Canon needs to update again. Otherwise i can only use it as a pure printer/copier.

No trouble with this unit. I lost the manual, went online, found it with no problems. Was easily used to change printer cartridge in seconds. Works well for anyone of reasonable/average intelligence.

Great Performance

I have found that many Inkjet based printers consume a lot of ink and this one is not any different. However, the overall performance of this unit is great. Excellent scanning (color tones). And, in may cases, I have found it to actually improve the scanned image when printing through this device.
Also, printers generally do not number the pages themselves. That function is found in your word processing software. So, ignore the review about page numbering.

My other AIO printer from other manufacturer bonked down, and was in need of a cheap replacement AIO. Glad I made the right choice with this one. Good scanning capabilities and printing for home use. Best of all, it doesn't cost a bomb.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: High Ink Consumption
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love my Canon

Replacement for much more expensive brand. A little over 2 years old, used almost daily and still works like new. I'm a computer novice and not mechanically inclined, so it really amazed me at how easy to operate product is. My husband even uses it and he is bigger computer novice than myself. Stingy with ink, yet it produces great images. Compact, light weight, perfectly matches computer and we love it.
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, durable, Easy Setup, easy to use, fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable, Sharp Tones & Colors, great performance 4 $

One of the most reliable all-n-one printer/scanners I've had. Initially had problems when I used it with an Apple laptop. To the person who blamed lack of page numbers on the MP160 - that is a user error not the fault of the printer.
Pros: fast print speed, Low Ink Consumption, reliable
Cons: Heavy/Bulky
I would recommend this to a friend!
