Don't wait for 4K Content

I just purchased the LG 55" OLED TV and it is awesome. I upgraded from an older Toshiba 34" tube type HD TV which had a great screen. I looked at many 4K models before deciding on the OLED. The picture is 4K quality from 1080p content. The colors are more natural on this TV - not bright and shiny like on most others. The curved screen allows for viewing at different angles. You don't need to be directly in front of the screen to see it clearly. I looked and did research for 6 months before pulling the trigger on the OLED. You won't be sorry you purchased one of these babies.

Best Picture Quality

After about 3 trips back and forth to some local retailers we decided to go with the LG OLED. I will admit the store models looked terrible (torched from store settings) and the 4K variants from other companies looked much better in person but I could not ignore the resounding reviews and positive feedback about how OLED was the best TV. My wife at this time was unconvinced and wanted to go with a 4K LED but finally gave up a heck of a good fight. Once we set up the tv and adjusted the settings I have not heard one peep out of her about the lack of 4K or picture quality And are we happy with our decision. The picture is astounding and I have never seen better. Do not be deterred by the 1080p only for some of the models, you would have to have some of the upper end LED 4k versions and perfect content to even notice a difference in my opinion and that is even debatable.
Explosions, fires, lights in dark scenes look so realistic its unlike anything I have seen. The OLED tech really does make a difference. You have to see it to believe it. Purchasing this set and watching a night time car chase scene, LOST episode, House of Cards, etc and you will be happy with your choice. Cannot wait for 2015 NFL.

Finally better than Plasma

Picture quality is outstanding. Nothing like OLED. Better than plasma and I was a die hard.
Web performance is poor but who buys a TV to surf the web?

I have had this TV for about a month. I got it as an open box, and every day, I wonder why the previous buyer sent it back to the store. I can't understand it. It's a gorgeous display, even when it's off, despite what appears to be defects in the panel. It has dimples which create a wavy reflection. From what I can find, it's due to the curved screen, and I can attest it has zero effect on the images when you watch TV. I played around with the many settings over and over, and I finally bought a calibration disc to make sure everything is just right. I wasn't too far off from where I had it, and maybe it's just mental, but the pictures really pop on the screen. Blu-rays in particular look like you're viewing the image through a window. When I have company over, they marvel at the picture quality. I have read stories of issues with some sets, but we all know nothing is perfect and there are a few that will slip through the cracks with problems. I am hoping I am not one of them, but I bought an extended warranty just in case due to the fact that OLED TVs are still new and no one can guarantee the longevity of them. For the price of the TV, it's worth insuring it as a long term investment (I wouldn't normally get the protections, but I got a great price!#
My only #relatively minor) gripes: you have to do a lot of "self-service" when it comes to figuring out how to use the TV and its many settings. Telling buyers there is a help section in the WebOS menu would be nice, but the booklet that comes with the TV is very limited. The sound on the TV is poor, but I think that applies to almost all the new flat screens and the speaker size/placement limitations. There is an equalizer to help a little, but external sound is a must have.

Best Big Screen TV Ever

I've owned several HDTVs, including HD CRTV, as well as LCD and LEDs. None of them compare with this baby. Incredible clear pictures, impressive response to fast motion and unbelievable black levels. Setup was simple. Calibration easy. Thoroughly happy with this TV. My CRT HDTV may handle motion a bit better, but the CRT's overall picture quality is just not as good as this OLED. The room I have this TV in has large windows, so Plasma just won't do. This TV has no problem with the ambient brightness.

I would highly recommend this tv. Here's the reasoning:
Pros:
- Outstanding picture quality. I sit about 10 feet away from it, so the resolution is less important than the contrast ratio. That's what makes this TV so good. If you're going to be 5 feet away, go 4K, but over 8 feet, I'd take this TV in a heartbeat.
- TV is extremely light making it easier to install.
- The magic remote works great. Setup to Netflix and Amazon without an issue.
- Picture color is great after calibrating to cnet values.
- The curve limits glare.
