HATE this cooktop !!

This cooktop came with the house we bought so I don't know when it was purchased. There is a lot of gap underneath the knobs that liquid will go through ! TWICE in the last week, the spark ignition switch harness burned with loud red popping noises under the glass. It's come to a point where my wife feels so unsafe in the house because both times it happened when we were not using the cooktop :( It's a shame really that the knobs are on the same level as the burners with no protection. I've already spent so much money on the repair once, not repairing it again ! Please buy a cooktop where the knobs are not at the same level as burners. It's a very easy thing to look over until it happens to you...

I’ve owned this cooktop for a year and a half now, and I am very pleased with it. The cooking power and control are excellent. I also find it fairly easy to keep looking nice. At first it seemed cumbersome to lift the large grates, but now I’m used to it. By having a flat surface, the glass is easily kept shiny and clean with just soap and water. The grates clean up well. The burners are a little more work since baked-on oil can leave marks. At first, I had issue with the flame on the biggest burner (lower left) taking too long to light and bursting out with a giant flame. After it was adjusted by an appliance tech, which KitchenAid paid for, the issue went away. Just turn the dial until it starts to click, take your hand away, and it will light safely. One last note, I had a Jenn-Air cooktop before, and this one required a larger opening to be cut out from my counter, which was an upcharge by the installer.

Pros: Easy to light gas stove and cooks well. Glass cook top is easy to clean with Weyman glass cook top cleaner. Cons: Grates, burner and burner caps are extremely difficult to clean with non abrasive cleaners. Has been used 2 weeks and already has spots unable to remove. Definitely would not purchase again and looking for replacement grates, burner and burner caps before this item is discontinued. No I was not paid for this promotion.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had to replace my Kitchen Aid cooktop because the auto ignition quit working. The former appliance had slippery spiders to sit pots on with areas that could cause pans to flip off the surface. It didn't burn hot enough. The new one has resolved those problems. It also gives a larger surface to sit hot pans on. It gets as hot as needed with a smooth operation. I am very happy with it.
