I must say this phone brings everything I wanted and so much more. Savvy technology, perfect size, settings are easy to customize to my tastes. I would suggest this phone to anyone young and old.
I don't find this phone very user friendly. I was tired of my iPhone and had read up on this one. Went I'm for my upgrade and found out I could get this one. I was so excited but I honestly wish I had gone with the new iphone instead. It's quick and I enjoy my choices of apps but that's about it.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Iteration is not a bad thing
on April 11, 2014

This phone is an incremental improvement over the S4, which was in turn an incremental improvement to the S3. This is not a bad thing. Some would have you believe that every new phone released should be a groundbreaking revelation of technology. Not only is that technically impossible, it's also undesirable. We are all creatures of habit and we go with what we know. This phone is a comfortable as well as notable iteration of it's predecessors. Overall everything seems to be improved upon. Touchwiz is faster and more unified, the hardware is screamingly fast and the screen and camera are both greatly improved.
While Touchwiz has been improved, it still offers up a handful of features that while providing a whiz-bang factor are not truly functional. If Samsung would like an example of how to integrate features on top of AOSP, I would suggest they take some cues from the MotoX.
Simplicity is deceptive. Some times things that seem too small or insignificant to be useful are really the killer app in disguise. ActiveDisplay as it is implemented on the MotoX is indispensable. It's hard to imagine that this is not a native feature built into the Android OS. If you've never used it, it's nearly impossible to describe it's value. However the simplicity of it's function and the immediacy of the display of information is unparalleled. There's a few more gems that Samsung could glean from the little MotoX but this is not a review of that phone.
Having had the S5 for only a few days there's lots more for me to discover and as I become more acquainted with the camera I'm sure my appreciation for this platform will continue to grow. My final conclusion is that Samsung has delivered another improved version of their flagship device and nearly anyone that spends any time on it would be ecstatic with the performance and technology.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bluetooth doesn't even work
on September 9, 2014

Bluetooth will not stay connected to my car. On the VERY RARE occasion it will stay connected for more than a few minutes it doesn't work properly anyways. When I play music I have to tell it to play via bluetooth instead of it doing it automatically. When I am listening to music and a call comes in it will switch to the call in bluetooth, but when the call ends it turns of bluetooth instead of switching back to music. However, like I said above 98% of the time bluetooth will not even work in my car. This is basic functionality that Samsung apparently doesn't care to fix. After buying the phone and having the issues I did some research and have found posts dating back to 2011 with the same issue.
YMMV with bluetooth. If you plan on buying this phone I would make sure you have a return policy. Even if it does work with your current car, if you plan on buying a new car in the near future I would stay away. Odds are it won't work. Just search the internet for all the issues.
I will be returning this piece of junk and getting a new iphone instead. My previous iphone worked flawlessly for years in my car without one single issue.
Pros: Bright display, Lightweight
Cons: Poor quality, bluetooth doesn't work
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Samsung Galaxy fan - but having issues with S5

I was waiting for S5 for almost a year. Finally arrived on April 10th with AT&T pre-order. Expected alot and was impressed too. But issues started next day. The frustrating problem is "Black Lock Screen". It was not coming up even after 2 to 3 min. And had issues with calling "Call not sent" and also some app clicks are not responsive for example "Active Applications" have to click 5 to 6 times. And the phone is freezing alot. So I called AT&T customer service and they told me to factory reset. I did that but problem persists even after factory reset. Then AT&T replaced with new phone. But still having the same issues. The most frustrating issue is lock screen issue. I have installed 3rd party lock screen but still have issues. When screen is locked, screen is not coming up even though you press Home button or power button and menu light lits. I know this could be a Kitkat 4.2.2 problem but Samsung has to fix this. Please fix this ASAP. These issues at the starting will impact the sales.
Software glitch makes speakerphone only way to use phone!

Clearly they have a problem...multiple people have noted that the phone strangely morphs to only work if you use speakerphone. If you answer a call in the normal mode the calling party can not hear you and you can't hear them, but if you switch over to speaker you can hear that the call connected properly. Multiple problems also when bluetooth connected to my car. have to turn of the bluetooth and turn on the speakerphone to hear an incoming call..... talk about a dangerous feature!
Doing a restart and/or a hard reset (battery out) corrects the problem.... but only temporarily then it is back to only working in speakerphone mode.
Pros: Bright display
Cons: Did not meet expectations, speakerphone only mode!, expensive, bluetooth connection
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Many Issues with phone

Note: All this happened when I just received the phone. I have had Samsung test most of this and they confirm that its a problem but won't do anything because there isn't any known issues at present. I need others to come up and state the same.
Headphone issues *While connected, phone rings outside of headphones not in the headphones, disturbing! *Receiving Alerts, either you can't hear it because its too low or it just plays it outside the phone *If you are listening to music and the phone rings you can't hear it in the headphones, it rings outside the phone and does not vibrate. *If you are listening to music and you touch the cord by the jack the music will skip a track!, very disturbing. *Can not disable the feature of turning the volume up because a dialog box states that you must confirm that you want to turn the volume up louder.
Pros: Bright display, Durable, Realistic color
Cons: Did not meet expectations
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Breaks easy, not durable, software malfunctions too new to have a repair program.
