This is a replacement for the one that is 7 years old and the reason I installed a new unit was because the cost to repair a switch was estimated far too much to satisfy the repair! I would have gone with another brand but the downdraft exhaust was only available through GE! The replacement was suppose to be Stainless Steel but only on the edges!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Love it! I love the design of the cooktop and that it is down draft. It cleans up easily also.

A solid Cook Top

We've had our GE 30" downdraft cook top for over two years and it works great. I like the look of the combination glass top and gas burners. The glass is a little hard to keep clean but it still looks better than the enamel on steel cook top we had before. There are just two flaws that keep me from giving it 5 stars. 1. the rubber gasket that goes under the downdraft cover to protect the glass from the heavy metal cover does not fit well and is made of a very flimsy rubber that won't stay where it is supposed to. 2. There is a space under the knobs where food can fall and it is very difficult to clean. It would be nice to have the nobs sealed like the burners so that crumbs can't escape into the space there. I hope that GE improves future model, but after two years of daily use we are still satisfied with it.

Loved this product but when the glass chipped I lived with it for awhile before I tried to find the replacement glass. Big mistake. Now I can't find the glass ANYWHERE. Such a time waster. Not sure if this experience will preclude buying GE again!

My wife is happy with is so happy wife is happy life. Liked exhaust speed adjustment from low, med and High. No mess and looks clean.

Found this product online. Says it is stainless steel. Picture online looks like dark stainless. Opened box and behold, two tiny stainless strips alone edges. Cooktop is glass!! Knobs are made of cheap plastic that bend and flex when removed. Don't expect them to last more than a year. One decent size burner. Other three almost useless.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
