Strong and Steadfast

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Previously I had a similiar cooktop by another brand, had it for 5 years and the ignite on gas went bad that quickly...it was glass top too however it had metal elements which was a nightmare to clean...... GE Profile has total glass cooktop with no indention for the elements which makes cleaning a whole lot easier. Also, this unit heavy grids do not move, locked into place... love that too. All in all I would highly recommend this if you need a gas cooktop... glad I paid extra for a more top of the line... the stainless steel knobs matches the ss accessories in the kitchen inc. double oven and refrig. pulls all together nicely.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Beautiful appearance

I have a question: is there a secret to getting a smudge-free glass after cleaning with Cerama Bryte? Using amount specified, I have a difficult time getting the smudges off. Seems like I am just moving them around.
All in all, it still is very nice compared to cooktop it replaced!!,

Really Like Gas Cooktop

I recently switched from an electric cooktop to gas. I am very, very pleased with the GE Profile gas-on-glass. Easy to clean! Gas is so much easier to regulate temp. Reaches boiling temp. fast, compared to electric. I'm happy I made the switch and happy I bought this model.

Cleaning nightmare!

We purchased this about two months ago. We have already had to have a service man come out because the lock switch would come on all by itself! Have not had any additional problems with the cooktop since then, HOWEVER, cleaning the cooktop is a nightmare!!! I have never in all my 69 years had a product that takes so much time and effort to clean. I have been tempted to contact GE to see if they would take it back! They give you a small sponge and cerama brite product to clean it with. It's like the old glass magic. However it does not remove all of the debris, so that you then must use a RAZOR BLADE to remove the rest! The razor blade has left scratches in the cooktop. The product itself is good, I love the large burner. However if you do a good amount of cooking and don't want to spend at least 15 minutes a night cleaning it, I would recommend a different cooktop!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Many pros but also some cons

This is the second GE cooktop I have installed, the first having shattered when something fell from a relatively short distance and broke the ceramic/glass. This is one problem, even though the high-fired surface is resistant to stains and such. The cooktop works well and is very attractive.
On the "con" side, the control knobs are really old-fashioned and prone to slipping because of the poorly designed connector tube on the inside. While the ceramic surface is elegant, it is almost impossible to eradicate smudges when cleaning-I have tried everything from cooktop cleaning liquids to windex to ammonia to white vinegar.
By far the most egregious design flaw are the cover plates for each burner. The underside metal plate is loose and falls off easily when cleaning. And, to replace the cast aluminum underplate, it is necessary to match small plugs to holes--each of the four burners have a different configuration, and the smallest falls off whenever a cleaning cloth is brought near it.
Overall, performance is good but the GE designers should look again at the burner plate situation.

Hard to clean, need to use ceramabryte which needs elbow grease to completely remove or else leaves streaks
Heats well. Needed burner cover to be replaced as got so dirty that it could not be cleaned, was told to soak in ammonia which discolored it, service sent a new one free of chargge

Easy clean-up

I replaced my original 16 year old Profile gas top with this model. The glass is so much easier to keep clean than the enamel pans on the old one. I can a lot and was always a little fearful of large pots of boiling water balanced on the original single round grates. No so with this one. The interlocking grates make it easy to move my pots to any location on the cook top. And did I say it was easy to clean? Spilled Apple pie filling came right up.

This replaces a GE profile cooktop and love the large burner. It boils water for pasta very fast. Easy to clean.
