I have four canon lenses that are broken, from the kit lens to a 29-135IS. I decided it was time to try a 'sealed' lens. My daily workplace is a large deep construction site, dust rain and mud! the pictures are sharp and clear, colors accurate and vibrant. I'd gotten spoiled with the IS, but this lens makes up for that!! I have not had to 'unsharpen mask' any pics from this lens, the raw and jpg from my 40D are clear and sharp. the range is shorter than I was used to, but the optical quality is outstanding. AF is quick, quiet and precise, has not hunted yet even in very poor light. not a fauly or complaint yet!
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, excellent color

The only one you need

For most of the situations I am taking pictures in, this is the only lens I need and why I rationalized the price. I use it on my 40D and it never leaves my camera. The build quality and superb operation make it a joy to use. On top of that, it performs wonderfully in terms of sharpness, ease of focus, color quality and contrast. Sure it's not perfect, but the trade off of carrying one lens instead of three puts this lens in the must have category. The plus side is when/if I ever upgrade to full frame, this lens is a keeper.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus

Primary lense! Best lens purchase ever

The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 lens has been my best purchase yet. This is my primary lens for many photoshoots. I find the focal length and f/2.8 to be perfect for alot of photography work. I sort of wish it had IS because that would definitely make this lens my one and only love.
I say if you get this lens be prepared to get a 70-200mm f/2.8 because these two lenses work hand and hand with each other. Oh and did I forget to say the photographs I take with this lens are always super sharp? Well worth the money I say.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, well built
Cons: price

Great Lens

I am writing this because I am surprised by many of these reviews. My copy of lens is super sharp down to f2.8. At 2.8 the depth of field is relatively shallow, so you need to be sure your focus point is placed precisely. Still, this is not a f1.2 lens, so most serious photographers should not have a problem with this. Given it's weight (did I mention this lens is heavy!) I can see how some users may have difficulty hand holding without IS, but for me, it has not been a problem. Despite it's weight, this lens rarely comes off my camera (only to be replaced by the 70-200 f4IS when needed, which is, by the way, a super fantastic lens). I have even taken this lens skiing and hiking with me. I have this lens on a D50 with cropped sensor, so of course I'm using only the sweet spot of the lens. Maybe others are having trouble with full frame DSLR's, but I don't think that's the issue. I'm not saying that there aren't copies out there that are not sharp, but my guess is that those that have gotten a lens that's not sharp are few and far between, but are more vocal on review boards such as this. The thousands of us that received our sharp copy just go about quietly taking and enjoying the awesome pictures this lens gives us.
My only gripe with this lens (besides the weight) is that it's just not quite wide enough on a cropped sensor camera. It's probably the perfect lens on a FF such as the 5D MarkII.
Pros: excellent build quality, super sharp images, exceptional background blur
Cons: heavy, did i mention this lens is heaaavvy, not quite wide enough on a cropped sensor camera

I like the image quallity regardless of the focal lenght from 24mm to 70mm. The fast focuss for action sports makes it a great tool for working photographers. Also it is a great portrait lens for large group families and weddings. This is a must have lens......... the "24-70mm 2.8"
Pros: Super-sharp images

Excellent primary lens

Rec'd from supplier, ran 30 or so test images and worked a three day assignment with lens as my primary "L" lens. As usual, Canon's "L" lenses make the best images. Lens is used in conjunction with my old 20-35 and 80-200 "L" lenses on a 5D body and 40D body. This new lens matches or exceeds the aforementioned in construction, sharpness and workability. Very satisfied!
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus

The best general purpose lens.

This lens, the canon 24 - 70 2.8 L is a phenomenal lens. The f 2.8 gives me greater flexibility to shoot without flash. The lens is heavy when attached to a rebel xti, it tends to pull the tripod down a bit. Although not as heavy as the canon 70 - 200 2.8 L non IS. It is however worth every dollar. The images taken with this lens are very sharp and the USM focusing motor is very quick. Overall a great lens and an excellent companion to the 70 - 200 2.8.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus
Cons: expensive

Have used lens professionally for 3 years before it was dropped 4 feet onto concrete. I did not have lens hood attached and front element hit directly. All I had to do was replace the UV filter and lens hasn't missed a beat. Have used it for 9 months since. The image quality is top notch and has performed in every way a pro demands. Being an L series, the price is high, but worth it if you demand quality from your equipment.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus
