"OK" printer.

I fell in love with this printer in the store, as the store printer's results were a beautifully detailed photo - one that I provided it - a close-up of my dog with all the fine details of hair, etc. Yet, when I got the printer home, I could not - with the various settings I tried - duplicate the fantastic results I'd gotten in the store. My results were so-so - the photos all seem a bit washed out and high-contrast. Very disappointed with this printer for high quality photo printing. Otherwise, it's okay.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great print quality & easy to use

This is my second Canon printer. I bought another brand in between owning my two Canon's and got so frustrated with the other brand, so I went back to a Canon. It's always easy to use and easy to change the ink cartridges, plus it does great photos and prints!
Pros: reliable, Compact Design, Easy Setup, durable, Low Ink Consumption, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
I would recommend this to a friend!

Love this printer

I really don't know what so many people are complaining about. Setting up was no problem, connecting to my wifi was easy and the print results are great. Many people are complaining about speed and noise. I have neither complaint. Printing photos is so quiet, I didn't even know it was printing until the paper came out of the printer. Speed? Well a sheet of 4 3X5 photos printer in less than one minute from the time I clicked print.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, Lightweight/Portable, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use

Less than I had hoped

I was in the market for another Canon since I loved my last one so much. I read all the reviews for this one and most of them were positive. I should have listened to the negative ones. The printer takes forever to start up after being turned on. I even left it on one night to see if I could circumvent this. It took just as long to wake from sleep mode. It then takes forever for items sent to it to start to print. And it is noisy while doing all phases of its operation.
Pros: Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: noisy, slow startup
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Machine might be good if it worked correctly

I am very frustrated with this printer. I have never had such issues trying to set up and use a machine. Plain vanilla printing is fine. But trying to do anything else is not working. I am trying to print on 4 x 6 from the upper cassette and it just won't do it.
The manual for this printer is not very good. It either refers to other items not defined or doesn't say what to do when something does not work.
I'm ready to return this. It's not worth the hours I have put into using it thus far. I have wasted paper and ink trying to make it respond correctly.

printer?

I have had this printer/scanner for one week. I have tried to print the downloaded manual and it prints some pages upside down and misses other pages. Tomorrow it goes back to the seller.
Cons: Difficult Setup, unreliable

instructions to install this printer were very easy to understand and implement. love the photo quality and just the overall ease of use. downloaded the android app for this printer and it works great!!! thanks...

Troublesome machine, good results

The pixma 5420 does produce beautiful photos. It is very, very slow making photocopies or printing print jobs. Alas, it comes with no instructions whatsoever, so EVERY last stupid error message must be researched ad infinitum on the internet, where the manual is also not easily available and simple things are never explained. These folks have produced a cheap machine that does a great job in at least some regards, but the instructions people either don't exist or should be fired. This thing is WAY too finicky and non intuitive so it needs a lot of explaining.
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, unreliable, High Ink Consumption
