This printer is *rediculous* in the "warming up" category!! Don't ever be in a hurry and need to print something because this printer will SURELY make you late!!!

Avoid this printer - really!

This is absolutely the worst printer I have ever owned. I can't believe it is still being sold. And the thing is it's not cheap.
Takes forever to get to the point where it's ready to print. Eats ink- especially the color cartridges. Buggy wifi interface - I gave up some time ago and just use the cable.
Don't ignore the bad reviews - it is as bad as they say. I won't even donate this printer - it wouldn't be fair to anyone else to have to deal with the frustrations it creates. Can you tell how frustrated I am with this thing?

Good Tractor printer

I turned the printer on about 20 minutes before I wanted to print a Google map to make sure the printer was warmed up. When you click print it starts to whirl. Then it stops; then it whirls again; then it stops; then it whirls again; I lost track of the number of tractor-like sounds it went through. After a long time it finally printed the map. What in the world is this printer doing to prepare for a simple print job? Possibly it is cleaning each individual jet/nozzle one at a time? It might be fast printing out multiple pictures, but it takes forever to print out the first one.
Pros: Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed, High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Warm up

I have had this for 3mos. I have 2 Canons This printer is for kids school work. These are the things I have noticed. I cannot say what my kids noticed.Yes, it does take an unusual amount time for warm up when turned off, taking 2-4 minutes to get going and 1-2 minutes to shut down. Don't be in a hurry. Where my other canon takes less than 15 sec. to boot up. For proper set up wireless you need to read the info from the CD to set up properly. But it does always work wirelessly. But during the warm up...it must be cleaning the ink heads. As this printer uses more ink than my other Canon that is used 20 times more often. And Consumer Reports confirmed this. It uses more ink than expected. Lastly, it uses cassette type trays for the paper. This is not something I am used to. There are better models at the same price point from Canon. But I did get it dirt cheap.
Pros: Sharp Tones & Colors
Cons: Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Don't Buy

I purchased this printer approx 1 year ago and have nothing but problems with it. It goes through a lot of ink even on draft settings and I have always required a work around solution for the scanner, and now the work around no longer works either. It is a complete frustration.
I will be replacing this unit with a competitor's product this week.

Pretty terrible.

I am pretty tech savvy, and this printer has sucked up so much of my time over the last couple years. I am surprised when I hit print and it actually happens. More often, I get an error code of some sort and have to try to figure out what the problem is for an hour, resetting the printer, reinstalling drivers, etc. The connection is just dysfunctional. Plus, the printing is very mediocre. I had an older Pixma printer that was way better quality in terms of output. Looking to replace it now, and having a hard time justifying buying another Canon, but like I said the prior Pixma I had printed really great pictures.

Found the solution must people reported on here about the printer being offline all the time. Go to the ECO settings on your printer and change the energy saving settings to NEVER.
Pros: Compact Design, Easy Setup, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed
