good idea, but has its problems

The concept of a multifunction printer is great. Unfortunately this model has some serious shortcomings. 1. It is noisy - prior to actually printing, it goes through a minute or so of clunking and grinding. Same after printing. 2. It is thirsty and goes through expensive ink cartridges quickly. 3. Had some paper jamming issues when using duplex feature - rectified the problem (maybe?) when I removed a foot long comb-shaped piece of foam that was along the lower rollers. I think the foam piece is supposed to be there, but printer seems to work fine without it?? 4. Paper feed tray is too small - does not hold enough sheets of paper...
Pros: Easy Setup, Sharp Tones & Colors, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Heavy/Bulky, High Ink Consumption, unreliable, Flimsy Construction
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Canon, What Happened?

I was very excited to get this updated printer with added features from my worn out previous Canon printer but to be brutally honest, it has made every day printing tasks torture.
Every day, it loses its connection to the computer and access spot. Every day, I have to enter the LAN password and connect it to wireless, then I have to shut down and reboot my iMac and then it still has the nerve to say that it can not connect to my computer.
Initially, the printer took about a good 5 minutes to warm up. Which is insane considering you only need to print a page or two. Now I have to seriously plan when I will print, giving myself ample time to try to get through these horrible inconveniences of warm-up and LAN reconfiguration.
Today is no different. I have removed all Canon files from my hard drive hoping that downloading all files from the Canon site will resolve these very problematic issues. It hasn't in the past but I am out of options.
Canon, what happened?
Can you please send me a printer that does work reliably?
As to some other commenters, yes, this printer does like to sip on the printer ink as if it was running a marathon and in desperate need of hydration.
This has been a nightmare.
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, Heavy/Bulky, Difficult Setup, High Ink Consumption, unreliable, forever to warm up, loses wireless connection daily
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Will not allow DRAFT Quality Printing on Macbook
on December 23, 2013

Bottom line is Canon is ensuring their customers only can print on NORMAL or BEST (i.e.: use up lots of expensive Canon ink cartridges) quality. I can see DRAFT mode but it is greyed out on the slide bar when you try to chose it. I am using a 2012 Macbook Air. This drops the rating to a 2 star because printing in NORMAL mode only is ridiculous for home use. Fix this Canon!!!
Pros: Compact Design, Lightweight/Portable, easy to use
Cons: Slow Print Speed, High Ink Consumption, no draft mode

I thought it was a good printer but I was WRONG

I have had this printer for a little over a year right now. Everyone complained about the noise which to me was not that bad. I mean you would never put a sleeping baby next to it but its not that loud at all. The big issue I have is even though it shows on my computer and the it is on the wifi it tells me my computer is not connected or the printer is already offline. But it is not. This can be very frustrating when trying to work and ea

Worst purchase ever

I have nothing but trouble since purchasing the PIXMA MG 5420. It will not scan to the computer and it stopped doing air print. Service has helped on two occasions, however they could not get it to air print. They got it to scan and then that function stopped working. I do not recommend purchasing this item. I will look elsewhere for a better printer.

works fine in the beginning...

Worked great in the beginning but after a while the wireless printing settings stopped working, I also don't understand how there are two ink cartridge slots for black and it won't let me just use cli-black when the the other one is out.
This is very frustrating because the ink gets wasted very fast off three pages of regular black text.

This is the worst printer I've ever owned. I loved my last canon printer and when it need replace I bought this one but much to my surprise its loud and it takes almost 5 min to stat to print! It has a boat load of options for printing but this to takes forever to set up EVERYTIME you want to print. I really hope I can get my money back and get something a bit more realistic. I will say once you get it to print it does have Canon quality prints but its so not worth the time it takes to get it to work.
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, unreliable

Don't Buy!

I previously owned a Canon MP470, which I LOVED...but I needed a WiFi connection. This was on sale and seemed to fit the bill. WRONG. As the other reviewer have said: SLOW, SLOW SLOW...LOUD,LOUD, LOUD. Print outs and photos are OK, but not as good as my old Canon. Unfortunately I gave that old one away. Guess I'll be giving this one away too!
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, High Ink Consumption
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
