Wow, what a difference

I thought i needed a new laptop. I am glad i decided to try upgrading the original hard drive with this ssd instead. The difference in performance is amazing. If you have an older laptop without one, seriously consider this as an option before you spend the additional money on a new one. I couldnt believe how much time you wait for data just being retrieved from the drive.
Pros: Inexpensive

Blazing Fast!

I installed this SSD in my 2012 MacBook Pro after becoming frustrated with the performance of my VMware Fusion lab environment running on the internal spinning disk it came with.
What a difference! Actions like suspending a VM now take 5 seconds instead of over 2 minutes, restarting a pair of VMs simultaneously finishes in 10 seconds, and all while running several native applications without issue.
I give it 4 stars on the feature set because I'd like to see the Magician software available in a Mac version, but other than that I have no regrets with this purchase.
Pros: Lightweight, fast

Laptop now has a new life

Since I use my laptop for running virtual machines for experimentation I decided to replace my old mechanical 500gb drive with the new 840 500gb ssd drive. It only took a little over an hour to migrate Windows 8 Pro along with all of my other applications and files. It took 10 minutes to exchange the drive and booted the system. It is up and running in less than a minute.
The only thing is that my laptop does not support SATA III so it is not running at full performance.
I will most likely install a Terabyte drive when prices drop.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Day and night difference

fast, saves battery life on laptops, faster start up and shut downs, nice software
Pros: Lightweight, fast, improved laptop battery life, easy to install
Cons: secure erase software doesnt work, price still a little high

This drive has made my Mac Mini scream! Everything is so fast now. I plan on adding an 840 EVO to my laptop ASAP.

Cutting edge ... has it's advantages

This is the largest of three SSD's that I have purchased from Samsung. The other two are on other machines, my wife's and a reserve laptop.
The installation of the migration program was quick and simple and the subsequent transfer of the Sat III drive was without events.
I'm a bit leary of the SSD's for the obvious reason that if it's gone you've lost everything, as happened in the smaller 120 GB 840 drive. That may be an exception but it does temper the rating a tad. I should state that contacting customer service was quick and painless with good response and assistance.
I'm impressed with the Samsung Magician program which allows the drive to be optimized to improve functioning. Just the upgrade to a SSD is a step forward but with improved tweaking and newer firmware the experience is enhanced.
I highly recommend the drives but caution others to make frequent backups to ensure retention of data and programs.
