I apologize for the inconvenience you're facing with the activation code. When you open the interface and click on the "my account" cog wheel on the bottom right does it show the keycode that you just purchased? If not all you need to do is copy it in there and it will activate.

I have used Webroot software for several years. When the 24/7 Geek Squad package increased in cost last year or so, I chose to just purchase the Webroot software. It seemed like every thing worked well the first year, but this year, after the purchase, I was getting Webroot messages that said none of my devices were protected, since I had not downloaded the Virus Protection. I have tried on several occasions to do the download, all of which have left me confused and disgusted. I was totally dissatisfied when I contacted a rep/tech, who just could not help me at all. I still am not sure if I am protected, since one screen says none of my devices are being protected. The strange thong is the scanning function seems to be working fine.
