Not worth the $$$$

We bought the WRV986FDEM01 July 2016, 3 years ago. Appoximately 1 year ago, the left hand refrigerated draw stopped lighting up, allowing you to change settings for it. In addition we've been having problems with the top refrigerator. First, it started becoming too cold and our food was freezing, below 32 degrees in the top. (Eggs, sour cream and vegetables were frozen, milk was iced) We followed instructions to make sure air flow wasn't be blocked and increased the temperature to 40 degrees. No change, so we un-plugged the unit for 5 minutes allowing the issue to be fixed for a bit. It happened 2 more times. Now, we have the opposite problem. The upper refrigerator isn't cooling below 54.5 degrees.
We have ice forming on and above the coils behind the deli draws. I used a blow drawer to melt it and wipe out all the water, but this AM the ice on the coils reformed and the fridge temperature remains the same. I'm worried my family is getting sick from spoiled food due to this refrigerator.
There are way too many similar reviews to mine with this same problem. I've already spent way too much money on this Whirlpool unit. The cost in parts, labor, etc will be more than buying a new unit. I have a 2002 Whirlpool Gold side-by-side sitting in an unconditioned garage running strong without any problems like this 3 year old model.
Whirlpool what are you going to do to correct this reoccurring problem with the Whirlpool - 26 cu. ft. Double Drawer Refrigerator with Dual Icemakers WRV986FDEM01?
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What happened to the standards of quality?

Wow, I'm super shocked yet relieved to know that we are not alone in regards to this refrigerator! Just like many others have stated, My husband and I have owned many whirlpool appliances in the past, always holding Whirlpool in high regards and loving that a majority of their products are Made in the USA However Whirlpool has a 1 year warranty. What happened to that trusted brand? That brand that made us confident to "decline the extended warranty" so naive for us to trust like we do, We are the ones who have purchased product after product, believed in the quality, and trusted it would stand the test of time as it did in the past, actually never worrying about the extended warranty bc "it's a whirlpool". Please, Tell me that those days are not gone, I have been extremely apprehensive to write this review, I've tried to word it all as appropriately as possible because I've always been a loyal consumer to the Whirlpool brand, was raised knowing this brand and eventually learning, observing and knowing for myself, after purchasing my own appliances by other brands, WHY my parents would say- you get what you pay for- they unknowingly educated me about whirlpool appliances so much, my parents still have the best dryer ever! It's so old!! It works beautifully though, no issues, never had 1 it was totally built to last back then I guess. I have that appreciation for built to last but what about today's alliances? Are they built to last? Even older, more affordable(way less expensive/cheaper Whirlpool appliance's like my parents washer/dryer) they were built back then to endure a family's/ person(s) needs without fail for I'd think at least 4 + years even w/the cheapo models, triple that time frame for my parents washer/ dryer lol. Here's My review:
It was literally 2 days after the 1yr.warranty was up when we first noticed a sound that was louder than normal, came out nowhere then went away for about 3 weeks Now it comes and goes getting louder at random times and much more frequently,
2 months later we woke up to our daughter asking "Why is our floor flooded?" Just crazy. Thought someone accidentally dropped ice cubes or spilled their water or something bc of the random pooling effect it had. Since then This is our experience with this refrigerator to date. 1) Loud, unusual sounds coming from fridge, the sounds come and go now and fluctuate in volume/pitch/humm 2) Inconsistent/ random water draining?/leaking/pooling/ flooding in front, underneath and behind. 3) The Lower
ICE maker(THIS IS THE#1 REASON WE PURCHASED THIS SPECIFIC FRIDGE *we researched the specs compared to other brands due to negativity in regards to dual ice makers in general vs brands and all, We have a large family and entertain on weekends during anything sports related, I needed the convenience of the dual ice production) The lower ice maker started showing very inconsistent production, no cubes, deformed cubes, partial cubes, blocks of cubes etc. then came the issue of the ice getting stuck up in the tray thing while in mid cycle so the ice will not completely drop out of or come out of ice maker tray, leading us to finagle with it just so it stops making the sound like it is trying to empty then it just stopped making sounds, producing the little too no ice like before, it stopped a day ago which is why im writing this and IT DOES NOT work at all as of today, moving forward, 4) The water dispenser malfunctions(sticks) enough to really irritate me. We will get a glass of water then remove the glass but the water continues to flow, although it flows briefly its annoying to re clean the fridge after just doing so, if u know what I mean.5) The left snack/ thawing drawer temperature touch control panel no longer works or illuminates and sounds like a dull beep when trying to see if it'll work,
indicating the drawer itself is probably not working as what it's intended to do. 6) The front door touch panel for climate, filter, cooling etc options control panel and the (ice/ water buttons) do not work consistently, we are finding that we need to push harder on the panel to get ice and water and sometimes they do not work at all or we have to continually press and repress the ice/water button to kind of wake it up. It is frustrating to say the least And finally #7) The front right bolt with the rubber foot on it, next to the right front wheel is either warped or the metal bracket/plate it's screwed into was not aligned properly when attached, the top part of bolt is stripped which made it a huge task for me, didn't have a wrench that fit the stripped shape, to unscrew so it will roll, I had to use every tool I (in my husband's tool chest) knew how to use to twist that nonsense up enough to be able to roll/move this refrigerator away from wall to clean old leaking water- so gross. We are just waiting now, thinking it is only a matter of time before the compressor(s)? stops . Thank u for enduring my review of my whirlpool refrigerator, She is a gorgeous looking refrigerator, that was designed with standards in mind, maybe they are "all not made the same" not sure what happened to those standards with ours but they are not present and my fridge should've at the very least lasted for years (I'm talking at least 8-10 years for the $ instead of 1 year & 2 days before sick syndrome developed) I'm feeling slightly duped and apprehensive with the quality of Whirlpool appliances, we just purchased one of their top line, x-lrg top loading washing machines, seems great so far only complaint is I hit/ bruise my elbows a lot getting clothes out of it because it is so deep, I am 5'9 for reference anyways I truly hope it has the standards it was designed to have and that we will not be as disappointed with its quality.

Not worth the money

Broke exactly a year after it was purchased. The refrigerator doesn't cool. The evaporator coils freezes over bending the coils due to the weight of the ice. Can't find any service manual on this particular refrigerator anywhere.

Happy with this refrigerator.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We purchased a lower end four door, french door whirlpool model first. It was incredibly loud. Returned it for another of the same model. It was equally loud. So, we returned it and spent extra for this model. MUCH quieter appliance. The dual ice-makers are great. The stainless is not as fingerprint resistant as we had hoped and we miss the capacity of a full middle drawer (in lieu of the split drawers). But we will certainly trade that for a quiet refrigerator that makes tons of ice. We are only a month into our ownership but are happy with this product.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I Purchased this product on Jan. 6th. 2017 and the Freezer and Icemaker is already not working. I regret making this purchase. I just got ride of a refrigerator that done the same thing. Make no sense to spend this kind of money on an appliance to have it not working already

Still do not have a handle for the right side drawer :(

I bought this refrigerator as a Direct Buy member. When it was delivered, there was clearly a manufacturing defect, the pegs for the handle did not fit to allow the handle to be attached. Whirlpool called me, after discussing options I was told they would replace the refrigerator. Since then, I have heard nothing and I am still missing a handle. Not very happy at this point.
