Like it a lot, but

I receive a rent and royality on the same 1099-misc for a gas well. Try as I might, TurboTax can't handle it and I have an error that prevents me from e-filing. I shouldn't have to upgrade for this minor item.
TurboTax should not make me print a thank you page. It is a waste. Just say Thank You and be done with it.
What's great about it: Easy to use, free state, free e-files
What's not so great: Can't handle 1099-MISC rents & royalities
Pros: My job status changed this year (switched jobs, lost a job, got a raise or promotion)

First time experience with TurboTax

This was the first time I used TurboTax and prepared my own tax return. It took a lot of time to get the documents and information ready to enter into TurboTax. You have to know what TurboTax wants and the order it is entered. This is tedious and takes time.
I had some difficulty e-filing my return. But, i called the support line and received the help I needed and I was successful in e-filing my return.
This was a good learning experience and I have a better understanding about tax preparation and the the information and documents that are necessary to make this process easier in the future.
What's great about it: I saved money and I learned more about preparing tax returns and deductions and exemptions. Very nice people helped me
What's not so great: Reorganizing my paperwork so it filled the TurboTax process and the time it took to complete everything.

Taxes Done Easy

7 years filing with Turbo Tax. Makes a dreadful experience (filing taxes) as easy as can be. Its Deductible is a life saver figuring out the non-money donations!
What's great about it: Flexible for experienced users, intuitive for first timers
What's not so great: At first, indicated could not e-file AZ taxes (fixed with 4/4 patch)

The Good, the Bad & the Needs work TT

I did my husband's & my taxes in Feb -Mar as well as my non-dependent graduate student son's taxes who moved out of state in 2012 for school. He had income in 2 states plus education + moving expenses. His tax prep went off fairly well with some learning curve on my part. However for us, the TT formula meshing Coverdale ESA 1099-Q contributions to my college daughter's costs with current federal education credits on our 1098-T did not calculate properly until I returned from 3 weeks abroad in April. If the formulas had been right in TT early on, I could have filed our taxes before I left & got my refund sooner-in time to pay my state taxes. But overall I love the way turbo Tax calculates complex income, deduction and tax credits fast and comprehensively for both federal & state returns, federal info flowing to multi-state forms--for multiple family members & situations. The running Q & A sidebar of various areas WAS helpful. I have been doing our taxes for about 20 years & using TT for about 4. So much easier & faster!
What's great about it: Really like how it shows changing refund status as you input data-good
What's not so great: Getting the Coverdate ESA 1099-Q formula right with the education tax credits did not work when I did taxes in March.
