Okay, I had purchased my original Chill Mat at one of those big bargain stores, didn't realize what I had until I'd used it a couple of years and into the ground. Threw the first one away knowing it had a port for a wall unit to run the auxiliary USB hubs. I hadn't utilized them previously, but, this time around I wanted to be prepared and get an adapter for the unit. No where on the unit does it say what its voltage requirements are, just in the book to look for Targus Adapter APA09USZ. I'm assuming from the 09 that it might be a nine volt adapter; however, wasn't able to find the adapter on the targus website. I have to second the disappointment of another review of the lack of information for this particular part of the item. I purchased a multi-volt adapter, have it on the 9volt setting and everything seems to be working fine and I am getting more power for the fan than with the USB port power cord.
BUT: I do like the mat, it worked for me for a very long time before I needed to get rid of it. The USB adapter port on the unit itself was so loose that the cord continually fell out. Frankly, didn't know what I had for the price I bought it at, wish now I'd just gotten the electric power adapter sooner. Went and bought a new one. Still happy with the way it works, It doesn't take up a lot of room. The way the legs cant the unit is helpful and the additional USB ports as well. I also had to upload the drivers for the USB ports in order for them to work properly. Once configured though, I'll be happy with them I'm sure. If not, I'll come back and let everyone know.

This cooling pad is a good combination of a USB hub and a quite, lightweight, perfectly sized cooling pad. While one reveiw states that you need the optional power supply to use the USB hub, this is not true. I found that it took a moment when I first hooked up USB devices for windows 7 64 bit to detect the devices but after a quick driver check they worked just fine. The cooling pad itself has two fan speeds and runs very quiet on both settings. The flip down feet are very nice for the desktop but it's still very good for putting down on your lap. All in all, it's a very good cooling pad and for the price especially since it includes a USB hub.
Pros: good size for gaming laptops lightweight quiet.
Cons: does not come with room service.

Needs additional power supply to fully function

This is a nice product, however, when using it I can't get the hub to work. From reading other reviews on Amazon it appears that it needs more power for the fans than the computer USB port can supply. A power supply is mentioned in the User Guide, but can't find it on the web site. I have a very modern laptop, so it would seem to me that the power supply should be included with the product. If the hib can be made to work, then it will be a good device.
Pros: good idea dood design
Cons: needs power supply

My 4- port hubs seem to be woking fine so far. Unit runs super quiet. I will be purchasing the optional AC adapter.....that will reduce any power drain from the laptop and may solve the problem of the prvious review.

Must use external power supply to get max from pad

You must use external power supply to get the maximum chilling and USB capabilities from chill pad. The power supply is listed under: Shop; Accessories: Optional Accessories; AC Wall Adapter, on their web site but they do not sell item. Use your browser and zoom onto power supply label to see manufacture and voltage. It's a little blurry but it is readable,

Power Adapter

Overall a good product except for the fact that it does not come with the AC Adapter. The adapter is needed to use the USB ports. The big down side is that the instruction book that came with it does not give the voltage of the AC Adapter in case you already have one that you could use.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The reason I bought this particular chill hub was because of the 4 port usb hub. The usb ports don't work.

I have always stayed away from Targus products but finally succumbed to this cooling hub. It is impossible to purchase an AC Adapter for it because Targus doesn't make an effort to provide one themselves or from any other manufacturer. No indication for correct voltage anywhere.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
