I bought this as a backup to my 70-200 2.8 III lens and it is a disappointment. Does not hold up to the performance of the 70-200 AT ALL. Maybe I got a bad copy, but mine is not god enough to be worth shooting. I keep it around for my daughter (she's 14 and has a rebel) to shoot. Not recommended...
Cons: Slow auto-focus, Semi-sharp images
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This was the very first lens I bought after going from the FD series to the EOS system. I bought it because of the 2.8. I was shooting L series with the FD system. This lens performs great. I have always got very sharp images with it, and a very nice background blur. It does seem like the sweet spot is between f4 and f5.6 but it really performs well at all aperture settings. I do wish it were a little more weather protected.

Had purchased the original Mk1 version back in 2002. It’s manual focus just went out and found this Mk 2 version available here on Canon Refurb site. Still an exceptional lens.

A very well designed lens, low CA minimal light fall-off. Makes for an exceptional astro-lens.
