Doesn't work right

The side tank does not work. Called support and they advised me to download software update. Still does not work.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We want to assist with your Opal side tank operation. First, please verify that the side tank is installed correctly. It needs to sit flush with the front of the Opal ice maker and on the same level surface. We always recommend ensuring that the unit has at least 4" of clearance in the rear and on both sides, and that the side tank is not blocking the side vent of the unit. Do not elevate the side tank, as this can cause the Opal to overflow. Please refer to page 12 of the manual for the proper installation instructions: https://images.salsify.com/image/upload/s--Dku84pZN--/f190e45ba5ba2f271d2cfb07d4018437ab0c038d.pdf. Also, check the water tube connecting the side tank to the ice maker and make sure it is positioned flat, without any loops or bends that could trap air. Adjust the tube as needed to help the water flow from the side tank into the ice maker. Try resetting the ice maker by unplugging the unit for three to four hours before plugging it back in. If the issue were to continue after this troubleshooting, please contact our Opal Team at 1-866-907-6718 for further assistance.

Nice update to the previous generation

Install was easy. Like the front drain hose and the ability to fill water from the top. Updated design is very nice. Compact for use in the kitchen area we have but enough ice for the single user.

Wears outquick. Worst GEpurchase for longevity

Our opal wore out after 1.5 years. It could no longer keep the ice frozen. Too expensive to replace. We will put the money towards a new fridge

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love that there’s a mini version of this icemaker now! I was on the fence about getting one due to how much counter space this takes up, but this fits in well on my counter and matches all of my appliances. The app is great and it’s fun to be able to change the color light that is in the container. You can pick any color from the color wheel. My kids have fun with this and they were thrilled about this new addition! We’re grateful to be able to try this product and are excited to have it for hosting events and making delicious cocktails and iced coffees. My kids love snacking on the ice. It keeps its shape well and the ice doesn’t clump up too much. It re-filters the ice that melts and does a good job of maintaining the ice at all times. We have been using it for a month now and after a trip with several days not in use, we just decaled it for the first time and it was a straightforward process. Removing water from the tank was very easy. The hose you detach on the front makes it a very seamless process. The app makes it easy to learn and understand the steps as well with easy to reach features - simply filling it with hot water and de-scale solution that’s inexpensive. Overall very happy with this new product!

Who doesn’t love nugget ice?!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Who doesn’t love nugget ice?! This nugget ice maker has been a great addition to our kitchen. It took about 45 minutes to set up all of the parts, run a clean cycle, and connect the ice maker to the SmartHQ app. The app has a lot of cool features - it alerts you when it’s time to add more water, it states when the machine is making ice, it reports on the overall health of the machine, it can adjust the lighting on the machine, and it can be used to order additional parts. The machine started making ice within a few minutes of setting it up and the bin was completely full after just over an hour. The machine does make noticeable noise while actively making ice but it isn’t too loud. The included drip tray is a must - when you open the bin to scoop ice with the plastic scooper that is provided, water from melted ice will drip. This machine is the perfect size for a countertop and is great for everyday use, as well as while hosting guests and larger events.
