I love the Folds but the camera cutout made me out

I LOVE the Folds!! I got the Fold8-Ultra (upgraded from the Fold5) for the extra display space! It's beautiful, and flat, and matte! BUT... that camera cutout!!! An icon-sized black hole on your videos, all your videos, positioned so that it shows up in almost any way you turn your phone or adjust the screen. There *IS* a way to add a black border (through the OS) that runs down the whole side so that you don't notice the glaring black dot, but then ... that defeats the whole purpose of the additional real estate on the screen. I sent mine back. Apparently the Fold6 is the last Fold that does NOT have the camera cutout in the screens.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Response from Samsung USBy R&R, August 21, 2026
Hi Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to share your appreciation for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra offers an expansive screen space, a sleek matte design, and impressive multitasking capabilities for an immersive foldable experience. We are delighted to hear that you love the overall design and the additional display area. We also understand that the camera cutout can be distracting during videos and may reduce the usable screen area. Thank you for providing such detailed feedback to Samsung.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Been a loyal Samsung customer since my first phone and will remain base on the quality ot the products they continue to produce.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I choose the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Ultra because it offers clear improvements over my Fold 7. The phone is good, and the most noticeable upgrade is the reduced crease. The display looks smoother and more refined, making everyday use feel more seamless. The wireless charging heat issue remains the same as what I experienced with the Fold 7, so that’s one area where Samsung hasn’t made progress. Battery life, however, is better. The 5000mAh silicon battery retains power longer, giving me more reliable usage throughout the day and reducing the need for mid‑day charging. Overall, it’s a good product with meaningful upgrades in display quality and battery performance, even though the heating issue persists.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I’ve been really impressed with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The larger screen has made me more productive at work, especially when using sales apps. Being able to have two apps open at the same time and still clearly see and use both is a game changer.
Texting is also much easier on the larger screen, and I’ve noticed far fewer typos.
I previously owned the Fold 4 and liked the concept, but it was just too bulky. The Fold 8 Ultra feels completely different—it’s thin, light, and about the same weight as my old S24 Ultra.
And the crease? What crease? Samsung really nailed it with this one. By far the best Fold I’ve owned!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was torn between the Z Fold 8 and the Z Fold 8 Ultra, but I’m really glad I chose the Ultra—the taller form factor is more my speed. The inner display is gorgeous, super bright, and an absolute dream for consuming content the crease is noticeable at angles but vanishes looking at it straight on and at normal viewing angles. The only thing that would put this phone even higher in my mind is the cover screen: I wish it were closer in size to the S Ultras (or maybe im weird?), as I definitely miss that extra bit of screen when texting or quick reading without wanting to open up to the inner display. Now for my only critique; coming from the S26U, the battery also seems to drain a bit faster, even when sticking to the cover display only. That might just be the device still learning my usage patterns, but it's worth noting. Overall, though, I'm super happy with the switch!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I chose the Z Fold 8 Ultra because I use my phone a lot for work, and the larger screen is very helpful when reading and responding to emails. I also watch a lot of videos while traveling for work, the larger screen makes viewing much more pleasant. I have been pleased with the cameras performance! Photos are vibrant and detailed, video quality is excellent as well, clear and stable while moving. Calls are clear and people say they can hear me better on this phone versus my previous phone. I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone that is looking for a top tier handset for work or personal use!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When I chose to give the z folds a shot I had my doubts but now after upgrading to the fold8 ultra from the fold6, I can't see myself ever going back to a non foldable. The fact that samsung has now vastly shrunk these phones down to being as thin/thinner than other phones on the market is phenomenal. The fold 8 ultra is super thin and it makes everyday use that much easier. Compared to my fold6, the 8 is roughly half the thickness. The ability to open this phone and run multiple apps and multi-task is tremendous and I find myself utilizing this feature more and more everyday. Battery typically has no problem lasting me all day with moderate/heavy usage at times watching videos and streaming music. If you're in the fence about the fold, take the plunge, you won't regret it! I love this phone.
